next task to attack on the layout was the entrance to the tunnel, I wanted this to appear as if it was built quickly. well all of a sudden inspiration came on a tv program, where they showed a history of a WWI railway where the british used a existing mine to tunnel under the germans. and run a line under it.

i used their tunnel entrance as my inspiration.

the first attempt I used balsa wood but this looked rubbish (in my opinion) so I binned that. however I had some O gauge railway sleepers knocking about. perfect!!

i was really pleased with how this looked.

i then decided that I wanted to add a bridge into the yard. again I wanted this to look like some of the ones built during the war. I wanted it to look as though it linked in with the off scene.

i then used wood dye to paint the wood to give a nice colour.

i then broke out my favourite material yes that's it DAS clay!!.

using das clay to add mud around the tracks. as the clay was drying I again used a stiff brush to add a texture to the top to look like mud.

once dry I sprayed the lot with brown spray paint.

i still have loads more clay to add before I can then break out the static grass.

obviously i had to spend quite a long time testing!!

I recieved a delivery from the local butcher last week..... strange way to start a model railway post but stay with me.....

The meat was wrapped up in a insulation bag, in the insulation bag was this stuff which appears to be compressed horse hair. I immediately thought what can I use this for.

So I teased bits out, sprayed brown and added a sprinkle of green scatter and hay presto a really good looking bush

Well done. Horse hair is used a great deal for hedges etc., but getting it for nothing is a bonus
