    G`day Folks,
As the title suggests, this is something completely different for a change.
This episode gives you a look at my old MGB. This is not an in depth road review and I am also limited in how well I can film a moving car and drive it at the same time, so this video will not be up to Top Gear standards.
This is the little car in question. This photo was taken at the all British Car Show at Kings School in Sydney a few years ago. I was then a member of a car club, so we had a few cars present on the day and a few hundred overall.

There were some classics there on the day, so I was in good company.
Anyway, this is just a brief look at and a bit of a spin in Gormo`s Little Red Ferrari, as Gary calls it....:avatar::avatar:

Terrific drive. I'd love a shot of that. As you say, takes you back to the basics a bit.

Thanks for taking the time Gormo

Superb lush motor you have there Gormo :thumbup:which will certainly attract the attention of Mr Sollis, I will of course let you know immediately the moment he goes quite since he is currently wrapped up doing commission work for me. If he does suddenly go silent I will assume he is on his way out to Oz so probably best you hide the keys somewhere safe. :avatar::avatar:

Seriously what a lovely vid and a lovely motor.:tophat::tophat::tophat::tophat::tophat:

    Yes Toto,
Back to basics alright.......and the people that learned to drive in these old vehicles and even older ones, learned to drive in a different way.
You would not see them tail gating you, because they would keep a safe distance......why.?????.....because they were saving their brakes......no power assistance....no disk brakes....only drum brakes.....so they needed to preserve those brakes for when they really needed them in an emergency.
Youngsters quite often I think, regard older drivers as over cautious and slow.........possibly true in some cases, however if they had learnt to drive in, say an old Austin A40 or the like, in that car they would be thinking about the brakes....save the brakes.....what`s the engine temperature.....keep it cool.....keep an eye on the gauge......hope it doesn`t rain...we`ll fog up the windows....that`s a steep hill up ahead...wonder if the car will make it up there....:scratchchin:...how`s the oil pressure.....I wish the steering was not so heavy when I`m trying to park the car.
In a nutshell, it was all about nursing the car along and listening to and feeling the subtle responses from the car, as well as driving responsibly and following the road rules and dealing with the traffic, just so that they could take the car out for the day and then get back home safely.
Modern cars are much safer and can stop on a sixpence and they have aircon and power steering, however you are somehow isolated from what`s actually going on around you, because they are quiet and comfortable. They lull you into a false sense of security while you`re driving along listening to your MP3 player or playing with your GPS or stuffing about on your smart phone ( illegal) and hanging onto the wheel with one finger because it`s power steering.
So I would like to see learner drivers be encouraged to learn to drive in really old cars that cough and splutter and fart along and have to be nursed every step of the way.
You gain an understanding of the car, of the conditions and you learn to anticipate earlier because you have to. You have to be ready for anything far earlier than would be the case in a modern car and I think this would create a better breed of driver.
    Next..?????

    MP3 player..., that's so yesterday !

These days you use blue tooth technology to connect your phone to the car, you know all that black magic stuff, a little like arduino... :avatar::avatar:

    Cheers, Gary.

Yes I know Gary.....I do that in the Getz.......which in it`s own right is a great little car.
A compromise for me, if I had to let the MG go in favor of a modern, more up to date roadster, would be an MX5........they were and still are on the radar for me.

True that about the Mazda MX5, a decent little proper sports they are. A while back I had a chat with a chap down at Kangaroo Valley. He belonged to the MX5 Drivers Club and he had one of the newer cars, but a special limited edition. If I'm right, there were only 50 of these specials sent to Australia ! Must admit, they do look good and from what I'm told, they drive even better !

    Cheers, Gary.

    Hello Gormo

It appears that potentially our paths may have crossed on the odd occasion in the past. For one thing, some of those streets look familiar (I think I recognised Loftus Road) as I lived in Greystanes for just over 30 years. For another, here is my Wolseley at a past All British Day:

Ahah!!!!.....I thought you looked familiar Wolseley...:avatar:
Yes that was indeed Loftus Road and that Wolseley looks familiar as does the scene where it is sitting. Was that day at Linnwood.....or Kings School...???:scratchchin:
    Nice car....

That was at the All British at King's School, Parramatta (from 2015, I think). Here it is at Linnwood in 2017:

    P1010168.JPG

I have had the Wolseley for 16 years now. At one stage I use it as my daily driver, but it doesn't get out too much now. I remember one time when there was a display day on at Linnwood, quite some time ago, probably around 2005 or 6, when I was driving to Guildford for some reason I can't recall now, and one of the marshals started waving his arms vigourously, pointing at the entrance, whereas I was actually headed for somewhere a bit further down the road....

    G`day Jim,
Yes I usually pop around to Linnwood for the car shows, it`s just around the corner so I can walk there....very handy. I would suggest that the entrance is not entirely obvious when you`re traveling down the road
I could well have been you there too Jim, when you were there, but would not have known of you at the time.:scratchchin:
    Ships in the night........:avatar:
My car is still registered for everyday use, but does not see the light of day very often, except for battery charging runs.
