They look terrific. Keep them clean but maybe just knock off the edge to the yellow cabs. Just a light bit of dust or something to dull them down a little.

Either way, an excellent result. Very good work.

So I’ve decided to do as advised above, ie keep one model clean and just “knock the edge off” the yellow, add some dirt to the roof and add a bit of detailing to the tanks and chassis.
7016 how ever is going to be slightly heavier of the weathering.
I’ve decided to use acrylics as they can easily wash off if I don’t like the effect, and for a change I’m going to use brushes, cotton buds and tissue to do 90% of the process. I’ll use the airbrush to mist in the effects and add some fine dirt to the cab ends.

first job, the roof on each one needs the grills blackened out

Looks better already........once this had almost dried, I used water to wet the panels and then add a diluted black to the panel lines and any fittings

now using a larger flat brush start to blend it all in

whilst this drys, repeat the same process on the sides..

    .

now it’s time to add some detailing to the chassis and tanks. I’m using weathering powders here in three colours and again a large brush and cotton bud to blend.

cab ends need the buffer heads blacken up next..

    .

I’ll let that all dry off and then take a few pictures for comparison .

Its amazing how a little weathering makes the whole loco appear so lifelike... obvious yes I know but hey Kim what a difference. These are by far the best BBT Traing Hymek upgrades I've ever seen. The amount of work to get them this far is major and often the general public seeing them running just don't realise. :tophat::tophat::tophat::tophat::tophat:

Thanks for the kind words Paul.
Yes it is amazing how the little bits of detailing on the chassis jump out with just the smallest amount of dry brushing, such a simple task to do, and I would recommend all modellers give it ago in any scale. If you use acrylic paints it cleans off easily if you don’t like the effect.

7017 in the paint shop for treatment on the side vents and grills but no black wash on the sides this time.

Roof has had the same treatment as 7016, ie all the detail and line blacked out then a diluted black wash over the top. Once this had dried off I put them both in the spray booth and gave the roofs a coating of roof dirt then some track dirt on the chassis and up the sides on 7016 but only a light dusting on 7017. Cab ends had the same treatment.

so here they are posed on the other end of Lord Street Depot in the head shunt.

rooves have still to be fixed down, but for now I’m leaving them as it makes access to the wiring much easier. The instruction state that they should be glued but I’m thinking magnets might be a better option for easy servicing and wiring.

    Toto....can I start my 8F now? :avatar:
