The New Accurascale 24.5T hoppers have had some weathering treatment and a run on LSD today.

Finally found some modelling time to detail and weather one of the two excellent Minerva Victory locomotives I have. This “red” version has had a Zimo sound decoder with twin speaker fitted, along with a firebox flicker effect and front / rear working lamps, a crew from MODELU3D and some small detailing, oil can, tools and bucket from Minerva. Finally an Etched name plate from Narrow Plant UK “Atcham Dock” no.6.

So Locomotive no.6 pays a visit to LSD for coal and water, then back down to the dockside for shunting duty.

    Kim

    Thanks Gary.
I would say in my humble opinion the best you can buy. Not cheap but I think worth the expense. There’s a superb range available in all gauges from N - G scale.

    Cheers Andy.
Not had a chance to run much recently on it. I’ll update this thread once a few jobs have been completed.

I’m thinking it might be time for a change, LSD will have to go, giving me an opportunity to build a long scenic layout and possibly a full loop of the railway room ....but what do I build? :scratchchin:

Well if Lord Street isn't what you want anymore then a new replacement extension could well have elements of both rural and semi industrial / urban, may be best to be open minded and just let the idea develop its own way.

Paul, I think its more a case of my rolling stock likes, wants, builds have changed. LSD was always going to be a relatively small (in o gauge terms) shunting layout with no more than 3 small industrial locomotives and 10 - 15 wagons (yes I know, we all say it....”just one or two small locos” ) I really enjoy operating it and a part from a couple of minor track issues to sort out and some scenic repair work along the back of the layout it’s still a pleasing layout to look at, operate, pose new stock on etc but as my kit building wagon fleet has expanded I’ve gone well over the layouts requirements.

When I added the two “mainline” running loops at the far end of the room, it gave me the opertunity to run longer trains (LSD was made for 5 wagon trains maximum) on a continuous loop and be able to sit back and enjoy the best of both worlds, a tail chaser and a shunting layout and use my new wagons. This has worked but I’m now finding that the scenic side of the loops is just to small and the storage sidings are not coping with the stock I have. Yes I could take stock off and box it up, change trains over every few days / weeks etc but as we all know handling stock is not good practice.

In hindsight, had I not wanted to run Passenger stock and larger locomotives, it would have been better to build a large storage / fiddle yard made up of lots of trains ready to shunt wagons onto LSD. Like a lot of modellers I think I’ve fallen foul of the wanting every thing, a detailed shunting layout, a roundy roundy, lots of storage, lots of long scale length trains etc etc . My original idea with the loops and a lower level to serve a second industrial area, which in effect would work as a scenic storage area has failed due to the incline, it’s just to tight on the curves for anything other than short rolling stock and small locos..

So, yes in answer to your reply, semi industrial, urban sounds like what I’m after. I need a station this time for my coach stock, this has to be a through station as trying to couple up locomotives to coach stock is some what of a challenge at present when using the run around loop. I will obviously need an industrial area for short trains (scaled down LSD?) and a well planned storage / fiddle yard area (more storage than fiddle as handling stock is something I want to reduce) and a longer run around the room for those longer freight trains that I enjoy watching plodding along......

Hi Chris, yes it’s been a great journey build LSD. Its nice to look back and read the thread again.
Much as I enjoyed the Perth show, it is a huge commitment (as you well know) to make for one show per year here in WA. Making a larger layout will only increase the commitment, costs and man power required to take it along and operate it successfully. So this possible new project is more than likely to be a “stay at home “ layout if and when it ever gets built.

Kim, It does sound like your ready for a change/rebuild, so go for it mate, as your interest and enthusiasm is second to none having
helped me with my garden layout, and Paul Hodgy with his layout (up to press) so its now your time for your layout modification, which if and when
I will assist in any way I can,
