By remarkable good fortune I was given an RSU today by a neighbour who is moving away and clearing his workshop - my spares bos has been replenished too. At the moment I haven't any probes for it but Steve (the neighbour) is going to bring me some when he comes back to collect more stuff.

Spent some hours working behind that loco prior to it going back to the GCR when it was on the CVR!

Well I’m embarrassed to say that after building this model to 90% finished and adding a standard DCC decoder to show her running on LSD 2 years ago !!!! I ran out of steam. The model was boxed up and put in cupboard and forgotten. Here’s the link to the first track run.

so roll of 24 months and I’ve dug her out, brushed off the cobwebs, given her wheels clean and a test run on the rolling road. All seemed well until a crank rod fell off :faint:how? So a fairly lengthy repair was undertaken and then a good look at the instruction to see what needed to be done to complete this build.

The bulk of the work was all the fiddle pipes under the cab floor, sand pipes, and trying to sort out how to run 11 wires between the tender and the loco to be able to install the DCC sound items to finally finish her off. 2 days work to sort out the wiring then a few hours on the test track programming the decoder and apart from adding two long sanding pipes, sorting out a tender load to cover the electronics, paint touch up and weathering, this is where I’m at in this build.

Kimbo, A very nice model , I bet you are glad you have completed her. Your model looks very similar to the Sangchen model . Mine was double heading a freight last Sat . I wanted mine DCC sound , but the guy who built her only knows about DC and I don`t want anyone else fiddling with the body work.

I'd leave the dust and cobwebs on - I don't think the even left the builders that clean and shiney :avatar:

    Beautiful runner.

Very nice Tony. Do have any videos of her running? Would be good to see a double header.
Sound install only with a zimo mx 696 and speaker would be straight forward as it will all fit in the boiler without any mods.

Kimbo, I do have a video of the double header , but the files are too big to put on the net - apparently.
I shot it with my new Sony HD camcorder , oddly ,when viewing the footage the camera appears to have recorded it twice and I cannot work out why . The second footage seems to be in a smaller picture.
My mate wanted to see the film , So I have to put it on a memory stick.

Out of the paint booth and wheels cleaned of paint, then a test on the rolling road.

Kimbo , Great video. I`ve worked out why my camera stores 2 images, 1 for the TV and a smaller image for the net.
I was advised not to put my 8F on a rolling road , apparently this can strain the coupling rods unless your rolling road is geared.

    Tony.
