So progressing onto making the outline shape of the main station building using plasticard sheet, at this stage the walls are only giving us the external outline and as the build progresses the walls will gain their correct thickness. Currently floor, platform and ground levels are denoted by a pencil line around the bottom edge.

Don't worry this is just an old table I use when it gets cold outside in the workshop.

Here is an overhead view... the Staff Room and Gents have yet to be built on at the left hand end.

    Great progress.
All we need now are the doors and windows to start filling the gaps.
Come one Dundee! We need you! :handshake:

Now He's "Retired" Andy, He'll be busy working his way through the 'jobs to do' list that his wife will have given him. In a few months time, He'll wonder how he ever found time to fit work in!!! (don't ask me how I know this, I 'retired' almost 9 years ago!):avatar::avatar::avatar:

The structural footprint of the main station building is now complete, the next stage is to fit door and window units and then build up the stone courses which will be an overlay, the length of this model is 730mm.

Great progress - unfortunately the window manufacturer is suffering from delays :whatever: - not escaped from work yet, but hopefully very soon.

Question, Andy's door frames have a nominal 3mm recess (actually ave of 3.24mm), is this to suit 3mm Art board ?

I'm not at work today, so will try and have another go

Do you have a priority list of what is needed first, and the number of each.

I will try a couple of tests with both the Grey and Green resins as I think the grey may be going off, and the green is a more rigid / brittle resin (probably less filler).

Ok so the chippy has got his finger out

I have combined all the bits into three assemblies Door and Frame, Rear door window frame, toplight (can't for the life of me remember the proper name) frame (2 of per door).

To try and avoid putting a threshold on the base to keep the frames square I am trying to print vertically - this however takes the print time up to 10 hours. As it takes the same time to print multiples as it takes for 1 I've filled the build plate with 15 of the wee blighters.

    upload_2020-10-23_11-18-50.png

5 rows of 3, the window frames will be printed seperately.

Now time to prep the printer.

Thanks Dundee for all your help and assistance it is very much appreciated and as I suggested in a previous Skype I can some money over to you whenever. Now the 3mm rebate around the outer edges of doors and windows is a fixing line to inset the Rowmark board although I'm working with 1.5mm thickness some allowance has been built in which can be back fillered with 2 Pak plastic before the inner wall surface is put on. These doors never had thresholds originally so as a printing frame they would have to be filled away afterwards.

Thanks Pete, I am working on the basis that this diorama scene will be a Platform 1 showcase and once completed will be available for all members to come a photo their locos on in an outside natural light setting here if they so wish. I say diorama scene but the longer term plan using modular connecting segments will make this a sort of portable outside layout... anyway that's the plan and all subject to social distancing and this awful virus going away.

Cheers Toto hopefully in time this will become a Forum asset resource for members to come and run / photo or just plain pose their locos and trains on... after all it will be DCC and you do have a whole fleet of engines fitted as such.

I was just thinking if you made the gap suitable for 3mm foam board + two layers of photo copier paper (80 gsm), then you could print the interior walls, just applying additional relief parts eg Dado rails, pictures etc

Interesting idea I'd not thought of that. My plan was to create a honeycomb wall structure which would be infilled with opaque Jesmonite to give weight to the building when outside and also add strength. I'll look closer at foam board for other structures tho.

I’d just envisioned it as a void that would have supports every now and again between the two wall faces to be honest when designed the doors and windows...

it wasn’t in my design brief! :avatar:

yes correct you are Mr S... the wall skins will have internal supports and the voids filled with Jesmonite, this will stop light bleed through, add weight and strength with stability. This is an expensive model and cannot be carried away in the wind when positioned outside.

There is an old North Staffordshire expression which goes "its bleak in Leek this week" but up here in sunny Yorkshire tis rate warm so I took of couple of pictures of the station build in good light.

    OK the wait is over

I have left them on the build plate to help them stay square.

They have just had a wash in the Wash n Cure

And I must say I am impressed with the results. Very nice models Andy.

6 mins under the curing lamp

Both sides - still has to have the inner glazing frames printed to clamp the glazing in place.

    Next up the windows

Andy has designed these in two parts - front and rear with alignment pins, to make this easier to print I have removed the pins and put both sides as holes, and use 1mm rod or print 1mm rod to replace the pins.

    upload_2020-10-24_11-5-46.png

First test will be to print them direct on to the build plate.

Paul would it help if I gave you an inventory of the various different pieces needed ? Just to save printing too many of one item and cut down on process... e.g say six double windows and six triple window on the build plate together.
