I don't have any wing mirrors on my Wolseley, but exactly what you described happened to my late father's Austin Freeway, which he bought in 1962 and traded in 5 years later on an Austin 1800. They were an aftermarket fitment though, so at least you couldn't blame BMC for that.

Two or three years ago I picked up a lovely 9F from an exhibition in Sydney. The note in the box said 'it runs, but has a few issues'. Regardless, I purchased this as it was reasonably cheap, only to find that the tender chassis had suffered from the dreaded rot. As soon as I pulled down the tender, the chassis just crumbled. This is one that I need to repair and luckily for me, this 9F is not tender driven, so an old tender drive chassis with the gears removed may be the answer...

    Cheers, Gary.

Like a Hornby T9 I picked up a year or two ago. Yes, I know that model has a bit of a reputation, but this one ran well in both directions. As all my stock is three rail, I had to convert the T9 before I could use it. I started by removing the body from the chassis. The top part of the chassis block stayed wedged in the boiler, while the rest came away in my hands.....

I'd better have a look at my pair of T9s, one bought new and another used back in 2017, if they run I shan't try and remove the body.

Regarding Hornby 9F's I was able to pickup a few scrapped detailed tender drive models and fit them to Railroad, best of both detail and loco drive.

I have had at least one rotted out 9F tender and replaced two 9F front motor mounts, the availability of cheap spares from Hornby was short lived as demand probably outstripped supply.

Wow, Hornby have replied, advising that it is a common problem and a replacement part is on the way. Way beyond expectations.

Didn’t want to know when my 31 exploded at both cabs. Had to revert to 3D replicating the design and printing it in plastic. Just need to rebuild and fit it all.

Admitting it's a common problem and sending a part that is definitely a 'wow', better check my T9's before they run out of parts or more likely change their minds :avatar:

The replacement part has arrived! Nicely packaged and delivered free to me. Excellent service, thanks Hornby. Posted 16/11/20, just 2 days after my correspondence with them. Considering international flight restrictions in COVID, very happy.
