Part of my expansion of the Walthers Valley Cement works cement manufacturing process is the addition of silica sand.

Situated between the crushed limestone warehouse and kiln buildings are the silica sand silos.

It represents a bulk delivery shed for gravity discharge wagons (I am using COVHOPs) which discharge into a pit. The bucket elevator lifts it from there to the headhouse where it is directed into the required silo.

The silos discharge to a sub-surface conveyor for passage to the pre-mix building which is work in progress.

This structure is built mainly from spare parts of other Walthers kits (Ref part 7) with the addition of a caged ladder up the side to the headhouse with walkway access to the elevator motor and drive gear for maintenance.

    Dear Jim Freight ,

With your articles and references on Cement manufacture, you have done for cement what Peter Denny ( of the EM Gauge Buckingham Great Central fame ) did for Gas Works, in that your research for learning and understanding of an industrial process, has been translated into an accurate model of the process, and is thereby an education to all who view it.

Your readers now have a better understanding of the cement industry, and will recognise and understand what they are looking at.

This is a magnificent achievement, and a beautiful model; very well done,

    Best wishes and regards, Echidna.

Thanks, I'm flattered, however Peter Denny was a master modeller, one of those whose work I admired in the modelling press oh so long ago ...

I love what you have done here..

I will try and find some photos of Oakamoor where it was similar, yet very different for the loading of the silica sand for glass making.

That's strange, I copied from the same page as you did... Unsure why a different error link came up. It isn't the same link address either... :scratchchin: I edited my post with the right link.

    Cheers, Gary.
