Hello all Over the weekend I managed to build a light weight base board to fit inside the operating well. This board needs to be easily removable as I can no longer access the track work at the rear. That HD gremlin is bound to favour this area from now on, any thing that can go wrong will do it here. As it is purely for scenic work I felt a full blown baseboard unneccessary so made this from suitably braced Hardboard. The polystyrene land mass has now been glued into place awaiting its initial shaping prior to the plasterwork finishing. This should enable me to construct further parts of the Castle complex.
Hello all Work is progressing nicely with Little Weldons scenic extension. Having discussed this with others I have decided to hinge this so it is now a fold down section. All of the plaster work is now completed the land masses have their contours now.
Fantastic work Mark, it's a great addition. I do like how you lock it into position, very thoughful. Looking forward to the scenery work. Cheers, Gary.
Dear Dublo, nice work that is progressing well. Your Spitfre OW - K on page 5 looks good, is the registration significant ? I also like your orange bowstring bridge, paying homage to the Dublo original. I think that the Dublo original was quite good, especially having a tinplate steel floor which allowed the train to reverberate whilst passing over , very realistic . Many years ago, a now deceased friend made a brass girder bridge with a tack soldered sheet brass box floor, lovely reverberation as the metal wheeled train rolled over the top, Regards, Echidna
Hello all Thanks for all your positive words regarding Little Weldons scenic extension. I have been really enjoying the construction of it. The land masses have now had a base coat of artists acrylic paints, various greens, yellow ochre and burnt umber. This has helped me to start seeing the forms within the landscape, I'm getting quite excited by some of the vistas that are now starting to open up. The next stage will be to start casting some more Linka Stonework panels. There will certainly be a Gatehouse, maybe a small Chapel I shall have to see how it all unfolds. A Rustic stone footbridge may well appear too. Thanks for your comments regarding my Spitfire model Echidna as far as I know there is no particular reason for the number other than that is what was supplied in the Airfix kit. I am pleased that you think I captured the spirit of HDublo with my Bridge it is in fact a Laser cut MDF model, where I have used contemporary models I have tried to keep the standard of modelling as much as possible in keeping with the older products.
Hello all A slight diversion this weekend. I have started to cast the Stonework tiles for the upcoming works to the Castle. I have been using a mixture of moulds original Linka, Scale Cast and some of my homemade Latex.
Hello all Construction has started on Weldon Castle's Gatehouse and Chapel. There maybe additional ruins yet to appear I haven't quite decided yet but some sort of Stable or Barrack block should really be here. As before I shall assemble all the components before painting.
Hello all Further ruins are appearing within the grounds of Weldon Castle. Gatehouse, Chapel, Barrack Block and an outbuilding.
Hello all Wishing you all a very Happy New Year. I have now completed the the construction works to Weldon Castle, with the final section of Bailey Wall being finished this afternoon. I am now casting additional Stonework panels for the Bridge across the River Wel. This is being constructed to hide the join between the original and new boards.
Hello all Construction of the Bridge over the River Wel is now finished to such a state that painting can now begin. Once all the pieces have been filled and painted, the bedding in can begin.
This is a fantastic Dublo layout. I have just caught up reading your thread and it's great to see enthusiasts out there that still love to use the old hornby dublo. I like the work you are currently on with, especially the castle ruins.
Not very impressed with your castle, doesn’t fit together very well. Lovely layout, will be nice to see a Dublo layout with actual scenery.
Hello all Works are progressing very nicely with Weldon Castle. All of the Linka work has been painted, thankfully. I was starting to wish I hadn't added so much. The River Wel is also starting to take shape now.
