Significant progress on the Station and Town. @gormo I repurposed some old Triang/Hornby platforms they still need some weathering but amazing how they can be transformed.
G`day Steve, What a difference that has made.. Are the pavers Scalescenes or have you made them yourself.? Gormo
Gormo, the pavers came from ScaleModelScenery. I'm pretty happy with them, now I just need Metcalfe to start shipping again so I can add some platform canopies, I did see your video on scratch building some, but time is not on my side right now... On another note: Do you have any thoughts on making a plowed field - I have a couple of Fowler Plowing engines.... I'm going to try corrugated cardboard, and some brown scatter.
Finished up the Private Owner wagons display - need to do a little more sorting but generally they look good!
G`day Steve, The pavers look really good. I still have some Scalescenes pavers that Gary gave me and I have not got around to using them yet......eventually I will use them. I think corrugated card would be a good choice, especially if you can add your scenic materials in such a way as to make it look a little less regular. Gormo
After some googling on ideas I used a piece of carpet, scattered with some kitchen herbs. It did work really well!
Next stage progress - need some horses and I can’t find the ones I know I have stashed somewhere. Of course the day after amazon delivers some is when they will “magically” appear! (Cows are missing too)
Just realized I Haven’t posted in a while. Been busy laying more track on the DCC circuit and wiring same. Added some new rolling stock DCC installed or ready. Got my first few sound chips. Managed to short everything out with a brand new but “dodgy” Hornby Princess that came DCC installed. Turned out to be bad wiring internally to the lit firebox. Finally got some Metcalfe kits so got more done on the station and town this last couple of weeks. Hid the poor underpass on the old Triang platforms with nice Metcalfe kit. Also added a Garage/petrol station. Have more kits on order to complete the town.
Very nice........... I love the arched retaining wall opposite the island platform.......very effective. Gormo
I`d be checking that little bloke in the bottom left hand corner of pic 2.........he looks like he may have a box of matches and a can of accelerant in his hands...... Nicely done Steve and looking very nice. Gormo
Been wanting to do something to these old Hornby “teaks” to try and make them look less plasticy for a while - seen some different suggestions, but I found this wood stain pen, and decided to give it a go - to me they look awesome.
About time for an update. Been pretty busy recently had a number of Metcalfe kits that I’ve been waiting for finally arrive and I was able to get most of the station and town scene completed - still some work to do but getting closer to a result.
Back to work this week. Ongoing progress will slow but last week managed to get a fair bit done. The plan is to extend the layout by about 10 feet in next few weeks, will continue with some details, but once the extension is in place will be a few changes at that end of the layout- so holding off on doing much more! Need to plan a little and will involve some track reposition and adding a fiddle yard
