This'll keep me busy for a while!

All done complete with fishplates. I will give each point a hot water scrubbing to clean off any residual flux, then they will be ready for 'Rust' painting. I will also add the wires/links in for frog switching before paint.

 

Hopefully Pete won't mind my having built without his tuition, any comment/suggestions welcomed before I move onto the remaining 9 points.

There is one other job suggested in the instructions, and that is to fill in the slight gap left between the end of each wing rail and it's adjacent switch blade to smooth transition from one rail to another. It's suggested to use a resin type filler such as Araldite, but I feel this might be too 'runny' between the rail end joints so I will likely try "Squadron" green putty filler which is much less liquid, and can easily be filed/sanded to the required profile. Also supplied in each kit is a nice piece of thick card easily big enough to go under the complete point, and is of the correct thickness to align the point height-wise with Peco track (and hopefully also Marcway). It seems a real shame that this manufacturer is no longer around and shows how easy it is for the hobby to lose a decent small supplier when the proprietor passes away and the business then dies with him.
I've looked at various other track kit suppliers, both the glue together and solder together varieties, and to me, although the solder together versions don't have that 'Real' look which those with moulded chairs/sleepers do, by the time paint/ballast etc have been added, I don't think there will be a lot of noticeable difference except perhaps for the 'Rivet counter' fraternity!
I won't bother with building basic track from kits when Marcway 1 yard lengths are available in boxes of 10 for £60 as it hardly seems worth the trouble, but I won't now have any qualms about using kits to build any other types of point, crossover etc.

I enjoyed building up the points kits so much that I had another look on Ebay and found that the original seller still had a few more kits for catch points, left hand curved points and a couple of crossovers on offer, so I bought the two crossovers, built them up and will now have to look at my intended track layout again (which I'd likely be modifying anyway) to incorporate them into the layout. It'll be several months before I get around to making a start on tracklaying anyway, so no rush, and I have a couple more rolling stock kits on their way from Slaters, due Monday, that will need my attention so no shortage of work ahead.
