To avoid any confusion or dilema, just get a second one and model both - easy :avatar:

Shushhhh Paul... we mustn't annoy Toto with a sudden rush of kit purchases :avatar: I had thought about doing another one in Rail Blue. The blue version was slightly different with having fixed jumper socket docks fitted on the cab which meant the connector pipes became a permanent fix as opposed to being carried loose in the cab to be "plugged in" by the guard as in the green units. The drivers doorway also had additional grab rails fitted as another mod.

Just put 97 on one side and 98 on the other. Turn it round and it’s the other unit!

Finally having completed the basic bodyshell over the weekend with just a few tiny areas to filler such as guttering over the cab doors it was time for a good clean down and then a coat of grey primer, looks much better for it and once hardened off for a few days the Stock green can be airbrushed on along with the roof grey. Attention now focuses back to detail dressing the bogies and the underframe which involves adding extra detail to the engines and exhaust systems... another scratch job in a cold workshop... ah well not to worry.

Managed to get quite a few of the fiddly jobs done this last few days and so thought a photo update would be nice... still have the door furniture to fit on this side but at least those weld seam additions on the roof are out the way now.

A large proportion of the underfloor detailing is complete as well, still a few more bits to add such as conduit piping and fuel injector feeds but beyond that its mainly done... the biggest and most intensive job was to fashion the exhaust pipes from the engin manifold and route them round the equipment boxes, radiators and fluid flywheel gearboxes... I even manages to scratch in the drive shafts a well.

I've still to fix the wooden step treads yet and of course the buffers need their spring inserts and the drawhook is missing along with air horns and air pipes, the cab desk and bulkhead will have to be fitted after painting and the fitting of 3mm marker light LEDs but things are coming together and will look good once the glazing is fitted in place which again will be a job waiting until final painting has been done.

The undercarriage equipment detailing is as far as I'm going to take this model, the majority of what can be readily seen is now fitted as far as I can make out so I'm happy with what has been done. The stepboards were added too so now after a clean down I put the piece into grey primer... its drying now under a halogen light upstairs here in my Wintertime railway workbench.

A modification I've made in order to stop the unpowered bogie from swiveling around on its axis is to extend the dummy driveshaft from the epicyclic gearbox onto the back of the bogie but not touching it, the end of the shaft will allow the bogie to only turn so far... I'll post a picture tomorrow showing it.

And the interior of the body also had a flash over of paint... I used Railmatch Universal Primer as the colour is a near match equivalent to the shade that was used in the early diesel green period. Bulkheads were treated the same to and right now everything is drying off...so very soon the artistic stuff will commence.

This morning around our neck of the woods saw a warm(ish) day so the oportunity was taken to strike up the Iwata Eclipse and colour the bodyside of the Cravens DPU, after four passes and a goodly while drying off basking in the sunshine I took the bodyshell and placed it on its chassis to harden off for a few days.So with insides now painted in the early BR spec for DMU stock and the chassis blackened the next job will be to paint the roof and then gloss varnish the sides ready for the Class 129 decal set which I have ready.

Bit more progress on the EasyBuild parcels unit... picking out underframe detail.

After several thin coats applied to the roof I think I now have a suitable colour representing the soot and smog staining often found on carriage roofs of the period.

And here is a close up shot of the never before photographed Co-op Coal Porters hut and landing stage... the DPU lurks in the background in subdued light conditions.

    Hi Paul

Just catching up on this, boy have you made progress, like the rust on the exhaust pipe.

Thanks Paul... the rust was a nice touch along with leaky oil stains and general underframe crud. I was going to have a go applying the transfers but the light has gone now so it may have to wait until the weekend. Once the transfers are on the bodyshell can be varnished and the glazing fitted and once that is done the cab interiors can be fitted out with LED marker lights. Well that's the plan up to press.:scratchchin::avatar:

Hi Paul I to have just caught up your build progress of the DPU. It's looking really good and the attention to detail on the underside and exhausts is really nice.

Thanks Mark, the Easybuild kits are nice to build and this is a first for me... I wouldn't recommend building an Easybuild coach until some experience is gained as they need quite a lot of research investigation (although the kit comes with a CDRom stacked with photos) and of course take time and patience putting the small stuff together. But yes I shall definitely be doing a couple more DMU's in the next year or so.

I'm intending ordering an Easybuild Pullman coach shortly, not cheap at £195, but it does include bogies/wheelsets/buffers and a complete interior which saves faffing around ordering interior bits from elsewhere to complete.

When you get your Pullman coach from EasyBuild to fix the plastic to plastic components together use only EMA Plastic Weld and for the brass / white metal components which fix onto the plastic use Ever Build Stick 2 industrial grade cyano activated using Mitre Spray accelerator which instantly freeze cures the cyano, otherwise for the tiny pieces in the fixing process it will not end well. My best advice Keith.

Bearing in mind we're not allowed out at present Paul, (whereas a self-employed like yourself is), where best to get hold of these items? I do have 'Screwfix' and 'Toolstation' accounts if they are stockists.

Thanks for the tip about the EMA glue Andy, though I expect WD will be closed at the moment. Our local 'Cheap shop' (GJ's in Alfreton) stock a lot of the 'Everbuild' products, and were open during the previous lockdowns so I'll check next time we are shopping in Alfreton.
