Steven and a warm to the forum from a sunny Dundee Great to have you on board, and I look forward to hearing about yourself and your modelling adventures. I'm sure you'll find plenty of interest, and if you can't find what you are looking for just ask, you never know we may even have the correct answer. Once again welcome to the forum Paul
Hello Thanks for the Welcome thread I have been Model Engineering & 3D printing for quite a few years now. I am self taught in both and i'm a member of my local club. The 3D printing side has expanded and i have run some tech lectures on the subject and 3D cad. I have only built Stationary type engines. I was about to start a 5" gauge loco when my wife (and me) decided perhaps we should move house so the build has been delayed and ive started selling the big machines to save moving them. In 2019 for my 60th Birthday i organized a party with 5 friends (and wives) to go Narrow Gauge loco driving. Here's me driving the Bagnall. I'm the little bloke without hair. I retired from BT on 31 Jan 2020 after 41 years. Obviously still want to do the engineering etc but i have decided i would like to do a shunting puzzle type layout or 2 with Industrial type scenery. I started some Scalescenes kits but found out i that i am not very good at cutting thick card. i'm still thinking about that and maybe a laser. I came here as the result of search about Small Milling machines but found some interesting stuff to fill my head. regards Steve
Hello and welcome to the forum Steve, cracking intro mate! Those little narrow gauge locos are a hoot to drive! I drove one on the Amber Valley light railway at the Midland Railway Centre a few years ago, can't remember what its make is, though its name is Jane. I'm also into stationary engines, I've two Listers and a Petter. I should have been away with one of the Listers this weekend but it got cancelled at the last moment, mind you my stationary engine mag arrived today and there's a notice inside for the GCR's vintage festival at the end of July, I've emailed them to see if I can blag an entry for my engine, fingers crossed! Cheers, Pete.
Welcome to Platform 1 Steve I am an aspiring model engineer, like you self taught and the last time I did any lathe or mill work until recently was back at school in the late 1970's
G'day from Western Australia Nice oiler...was watching a film on a full sized restored engine of this and how they can idle on 0 rpm. Very interesting engine though.
Thanks all for the welcome. Just looking and reading at the moment. Found lots of interesting stuff on scratchbuilding, baseboards & shunting puzzles and it's info i have not seen elsewhere on the big forums. Thanks again regards Steve
Hi Steve, for cutting out the thick card, you can cheat and laminate 2 x 1mm layers of card, I have the same issues cutting the 2mm grey board, so often use 2 layers of 1mm instead. A laser cutter would be good tho', somehow the boss doesn't seem to enthusiastic about the thought. Paul
