It had been suggested that I ought to get a rolling road. I'm in the process of re-building Setforth Junction, and have taken the opportunity to build in a workbench. As I had been getting fed up of using a piece of track lashed to an old controller for testing locos that seemed a good idea, so I started reseraching what was on offer. I liked the look of the Ten Commandments offering as it kept everything together, and I was going to have a dedicated space. Further research and I found that a simialar (identical design) one was available from Germany with more rollers than the standard offering (10 sets rather than 7). It was ordered on 9th May, and arrived on 19th May. Total cost 69 Euros (59.25 pounds sterling) including postage. Note its also twice the length at 800mm - that isn't needed and I'm likely to cut at last 300mm off it. The picture only shows half of it!
They do a range of gauges.

Hi Dave that's a nice rolling road. I have a hornby rolling road and it's a great piece of kit.

Don't cut it until you're sure you'll never buy a Garret

    Nice piece of kit.

Checked the length of a Beyer Garratt. Looks like I could cut about 400mm off! However I think I'll leave the saw in the draw until I've got my work area planned given how many iterations of the storage yard plan I've done and it still changes almost daily :)

Hi Mark. The Hornby one only seemed to come with 3 sets of rollers although you can buy extras? Can it cope with a 9F for example?

I bought the 'Zeller' one for 00 gauge too Dave, brass rollers can get a bit 'rattley' after a lot of use though and you need to be very sparing with oil if you lubricate them. My 0 gauge rolling road uses ball bearings for the rollers which seems a better idea.

Another advantage of keeping it full length - you can have several loco's running at the same time.

I dont think I'll be using it that often, which is one of the reasons I've been holding off buying one. I guess if you are a DCC user then you may use it more, or buy new locos and use it for running in. But I've only bought 1 new loco for 40 years and I dont foresee that changing in the near/medium term. If I wear it out I'll either be amazed or a lottery winner! :)

Nice rolling road Dave. I won a rolling road from a competition we ran here several years ago. Wish I new the manufacturer as I have been asked about it several times !

    Cheers, Gary.

Yes. Yes it can. That’s what I use.
What it can’t cope with is a 6 car blue Pullman!

I have a DCC Concepts O gauge rolling road and it cannot cope with my MTH Duchess . It is handy for my Heljan diesels.
