I’ve been reading non railway for the past few months.
It’s Harrier 809 which is all about a Naval squadron that was reformed to go to war in the Falklands conflict.
What I found interesting is that we went to war with the Sea Harrier, it was also made up from pilots and aircraft from 1sqn RAF, some who had less than 12 hrs on the aircraft. Most of the time the weapons and systems didn’t work due to the sea water and conditions, but, most of all, at least half the “kills” on the Argentinians were still close combat and with guns just like they had been 40 years earlier in WW2.

it also gives a great insight in to what else was going on in the background, such as trying to get the RAF Canberra’s to work from Chile to try and photograph the other side and also how some of our aircraft were painted in other airforce colours to using civilian courier aircraft to transport urgent items.
A fantastic read with much of it based on the Ill fated Atlantic Conveyor (no not the class 45).

well worth picking up if you like aviation or military history.
