I'm intend to built a sort of Ruston DS. Using the Lima drive unit. I made a sketch with pencil and paper to see if the chassis would fit. The wheelbase is about 10 mm to long. I don't care much about that for now. I thought that using an existing driveunit would get me going easier..... See and wonder how very much to big is the Lima according to the Ruston. I drew the Ruston in 1:43,5. The Lima is suppost to be 1:45. Albert
To get a feeling of the size of standard gauge I started with a Slater's kit. This is a sneakpreview.
Hi Albert, I must admit to being completely thrown by misreading your second post. I had seen the reference to O gauge (ish with the 1:45 lima body) but I misread your line "To get a feeling of the size of standard gauge I started with a Slater's kit." as "getting a feeling for standard gauge 1" Knowing that Slaters do some Midland wagons in Gauge One I thought that your model was Gauge 1 until I re-read your post this evening and the penny dropped...
I have a couple of the Lima shunters, the first one I started building an LNER Y6 in plasticard then gave up, I can't remember why though and Angliziced it. I also swopped out the lima motor for an ex computer motor of Ebay, much better. The second is still as I bought it though I have bought a new motor and dcc chip for it. Cheers, Pete.
I built a cd motor in de Lima-drive. It runs with one Lipocel 3,4V and RC. It crawls a bit too fast but it is what it is. The chassis is just a test to see what can be done and what should be done.
Full cardboard chassis become to fragile: That's better.... Buffers from styreen tubes and pins. Break assembly from card and brass.
I missed a good chunk of this thread, great progress. I have a CD motor upgrade for my lima 3.5F (it's not big enough for a 4F ), and may get round to fitting it some day Paul
I have changed the motor for better running. Some more pics. Loading plug for the battery On/Off switch Cab in progress Brakes and bullbars Step Albert
Well, I never made it to 'Employee of the Month' so being 'Picture of the week' now is one to remember! Albert
