Geez...been busy the past few weeks outside the home so nothing more to show at this point although in amongst all the mayhem a few packages did arrive.

I have my Ion generator kit on the bench...just have to collect all the bits to build out of the shed.
I have received my order of Paints to get my model kits going again. Looking forward to finishing of a few of them off with paint when the time allows.
The tie kits for the top of my trestle bridge have arrived and look to need some modification as I am using code 100 and the kits use the 83 type rail spike centers. Some filing of the rail will fit them fine.

Hmmm...what else has been going on in there? Well I get to drive the trains back and forward and I have been dreaming a bit but for now its back to the grind for me...time to get back into employment after so long out due to injury.

Thanks for following...hope to knock out an update in the next few weeks.

G'day all...hope you all had a great new year and enjoyed the seasons holidays.

Its been a while since I ventured into the train room unfortunately...I have had to head back to work and the hours are long leaving me with little energy and time to carry on with the Old Ply branch rail road. I have managed to occupy the lil ankle biters and break free of responsibility for a week so I decided to dig out some models that had been waiting for me to tend to. I have assembled the Valley Growers kit by Walthers. Its now painted and weathered and sitting in its place on the layout.
    20220108_115052.jpg

I also dug out a Tichy train kit that I got online to pair up with my rail crane and other MOW gear i wanted to include on the layout. The 2044 Boom car kit was a real challenge at first after seeing the tiny parts ai needed to deal with but i soon found my old magnifying stand and double teamed it with my recent need for a glasses prescription to turn out a model that I am pretty stoked with.
I am no pro modeller and this was my third go at painting and weathering train gear but after watching a fair few of you guys and the tutorials around the tube I managed to pull of a half decent finish. Geez these kits have fidly parts.

    20220112_232538.jpg 20220112_232554.jpg

As for the rest of the layout I haven't added any more scenery...I have a back scene on order from Train Junkies but due to the US postal service forming some kind of Embargo with Australia I am unable to trade with Train Junkies at this moment in time. I have uploaded another Youtube update for the online watchers to giggle at...hope someone is entertained by them...

Here is the link for your watching pleasure.

    Thanks for your support.

    G'day all...

Out doing a tad of late night rail work in the layout...crew has dug up a section of the grain siding to install a new set of points to expand the siding. The existing siding has been duplicated to allow for movement of empty and loaded wagons between pick ups.
The points and track has been laid and the track on this section of the branch is now ballasted.

Seems the rail crew were at it again last night...another 250 feet or so of track laid and ballasted...

Here is a pic of the Trackrite foam underlay at work...wasn't sure how to work with it at first.
I pre-painted the beveled sides of the foam with white glue before sprinkling the ballast over the rail ties. The excess material seemed to stick well to the glue and the ballast in the ties was easily coated with diluted glue. I used a Sard wonder soap spray bottle with soapy water to wet the material before applying the glue.
I'm going to need/get a lot more practice with this...lol

Making great progress in such a short time, with quality results. Great to have you back, even though it maybe for short time. "All work and no play", as they say.

I agree with Philip, great progress !:thumbs::thumbs:

I must say I like the way you have angled the trestle bridge, it looks better like this and will give you more scenery modelling scope.

Would I be right to say that the angle of the bridge is due to not wanting a tighter radius on the curve ?

    Cheers, Gary.

    Hi guys...n Galz...

Sorry for the late reply...yes the curve is a bit tight and I didn't want the tracks to just follow a straight line...rather I wanted the tracks to follow a contour of sorts, Hard to see on flat ply...I am also leaving room in that corner for future development....room for a curved turnout install at some point in the future.

Been busy and sick...not covid thankfully...working too many hours and kids sports and activities on the weekend let alone a bit of work needs getting done around the home...

One thing that is on the cards is the install of a backdrop...having the modules off the wall due to the chosen shelving I have used I can set 16mm battens against the wall and fixed through the base frame...this will also cover the existing shelving brackets.

    Cheers till next time.

Yeah...slow and steady for sure...apart from other responsibilities I've been bed ridden this week...no improvement as yet...:(

    Back scene notes...
I got in touch with William from Trainjunkies.com and hear that their mail seems to be opened up to Australia again...
He has sent an order through to SA and is hoping it arrives so he can resume mailing us down here again.

    Scenery note...
Looking around the yard and may venture into the bush for tree and shrub stock to be used in scale for tree trunks. Nothing realy been spotted or stands out yet. Might try for a short walk outside tmoro if the weather lays off a bit.

Youtubing all week...lots of shortline subscriptions :hammer:...

    Another update...
I have removed my identity from Facecrack...deleted the account...too many fake accounts and scams...its just not a trusted platform anymore...pardon the punn.
So you will see more of my likes on here from now on so as to score my instant reward endorphins :avatar:.

    Stay well...chat soon.

Good to hear you're getting back up to speed on the layout. Like Phil and Gormo has said above, get well soon. Looking forward to the next installment on the Old Ply Branch.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Gday all...
I received a parcel not long back containing some small details including signs, decals and load out kits like drums, pallets and skip bins etc.
Anyway to cut to the chase...I came across a tube stream today on weathering oil drums...seeing a few O scalers on here I thought it might be of interest. It's a quite in depth sequence of steps but I think I have taken some cool tips and found some new products to look out for from it. Hope it helps.

Some very useful tips in the video. I have used isopropyl alcohol to seal my powders into a matt clear coat. Saves buying the pigment sealer !

I'll have to ask you, has your missus been asking where her makeup sponges have disappeared to ?? :scratchchin::avatar::avatar:

    Cheers, Gary.

    G'day all,

Haha... nice one Garry, but good for her and unfortunate for me...she hasn't got much to steal.

Hope we are all well and in good spirits. I have been laid out on the couch for a few weeks with some unknown illness that's knocking my balance around but still mentally in check. I finally dug out the paint sets that i acquired earlier in the year to finish off my timber trestle bridge project that has been on the back burner for way too long. I managed to put together a short film of my progress and results.

I made use of a kit put together by Vallejo containing a collection of Old and New Wood Effects colors and tones suitable as washes and air brush application. This little scratch built/kit bash model has never looked so good.
Thanks to Gary and a pile of other youtubers and diorama modelers for getting my confidence up to have a go at this process.

Here are the results...don't forget to view the youtube content for this model.

    Cheers for the inspiration everyone.

Thanks...really surprised myself, though it was a fair bit of plagiarism when it came to methodology.
Maybe one day I will actually finish my layout instead of just buying train stuff and painting models... :headbanger:
