    Hi Pete,

Apparently, they give you a " jig " to let you build the loco body prior to building the chassis. The jig is meant to deliver a " true and square " body build that will fit to the chassis exactly.

First time I've seen that. I am trying to identify the jig amongst the parts at the moment. The loco body, although pretty involved, looks the easier part of the build. I thought starting with that may help me get the measure of soldering again prior go starting ghe chassis. The chassis gas a myriad of lost wax castings and pipes to fit. It's by far the most challenging part of the kit. The tender us somewhere in between.

I'll post up the photos of the parts before long to give you an idea. It is another beautiful kit by MOK.

Now ..... going off piste a little ....... I have it kn goid authority that another member on here who ( for the time being) shall remain nameless, has an MOK 8F winging it's way to them.

Now ... I'm not trying to set the rabbit running or anything as that would be akin to setting a pack of wild dogs on them ......... but .......... it will be interesting to see when they will show their hand.:oops:

I will not stand to be accused of trying to deflect attention from myself or any underhand tactics of that sort ..... that would be very unsporting .....:avatar:

However, feel free to hunt them down.

Phew luckily I'm not one of the sites esteemed builders - especially with the number of mistakes I make and the number of unfinished models on the todo list.

And now I've been outted as well  - yes your honour it's me I'm about to become the owner of an MOK Stanier 8F kit, but I promise not to solder to metal before the 4F is completed - honest really ............ but I can still look and plan ......... :avatar:

I may be in trouble - I'm getting a visit from our beloved flounder and he's bringing donuts ........ normally means he needs to apply a more personal approach to asking for something to be done like blocking the exit until I come round to the correct answer  :scratchchin: :avatar:

Well two can play at that game - extra coffee on hand (the strong stuff) bacon, fresh rolls and pies all at the ready to distract him at the appropriate moments :avatar:

It's been over two years since he's been able to visit so should be a good day - probably lots of blethering and nae work to show for it, what more can you ask for, well maybe beer but he's driving.

Turned out not a bad day at all, my 8F arrived - just a very quick look at.

A good gander at Toto's Q1 kit, thinks it's on a tour of Scotland, plenty of large cups of coffee - Toto has set a new Scottish record of running upstairs with legs crossed and buttocks clamped :avatar:

And he even did a bit of work on his own 4F tender

    And I have photographic evidence.

Catch you all later coffee number 5 is waiting for consumption

Yes ..... a very enjoyable visit as always. Please pass on my thanks to the catering department.

I'll catch up with you later. I suppose you'll be watching " dancing on ice " now. Which reminds me, I remember on one of our Elgin Exhibitions, Paul sliding along the floor on a jam donought that I had dropped. I immediately gave him an 8.5 for artistic creativeness. He has many strings to his bow.

Anyway ..... enjoy ogling Jane Torvill and all these leotards and sequins and I'll catch you later.

Ah yes, I seem to remember 'Big Jim' McGowan calling the gang of us "Esteemed Modellers" at the 2017 York show.........dunno who He was alluding to exactly and I hadn't even started in "0" gauge back then so it couldn't have been me!
I'm looking forward to seeing how Toto gets on with the Bulleid, and getting the 4F completed......remembering I have one of 'Big Jim's' 02 tanks to put decals on for completion, not to mention the Rebuilt "Merchant Navy" still in the kit box! Must get back into it again!

    I definitely know what that’s like. :(
It must be a least seven years since I actually built anything in O gauge. I used to build the odd kit for friends as a favour mainly, then after awhile other people started wanting me to build them particular prototypes. As I was working full time I found it hard to fit the time in, consequently I just didn’t enjoy kit building anymore so walked away from it. (Respect to all those Pro builders) I still messed around with 4mm but it wasn’t the same as having a sense of achievement seeing a 7mm loco you built yourself from a good kit.
I now getting back into 0 gauge (for myself) and have accumulated a few kits for future builds.

Returning to the Bulleid Q1. I currently have two to build, one of which is the MOK kit and the other an ACE products version. Totally chalk and cheese. One has lovely clean nickel silver etches and fully detailed Instructions, the other has badly tarnished brass and instructions that look like they’re blown up from the back of a fag packet. Guess You get what you pay for.
Only reason for getting the ACE kit was for a possible future S7 project.:scratchchin:
Got a Gladiator Schools Class which I’m looking forward to building knowing the prototype very well, also have one of Dan Garrett’s SER O1’s on order which I may do a photo build on here if there’s any interest?
Current project on the bench and near completion if only to get me back in the swing of things is a SECR P class, but can’t find a poo emoji

    Hi Torry,

Same as myself, one MOK and one ACE.

You should check out the build done on the ACE version as done by Kimbo. He made an excellent job of the ACE kit. Very much worth a read. I am hoping to e putting solder to nickle silver this weekend co ing. I have been busy clearing the decks to give me a bit working room in the shed tonight. Another hour or two tomorrow should see it ready to go for the weekend.

I'll look forward to seeing your own projects as they progress.

    Cheers

A few pictures of the MOK Q1 goodies just to give you a flavour of it.

the sturdy box that it comes in.

A sample of the instruction pages.

the bags of lost wax castings.

and a sample of the nickle silver etches that make up the kit. there are about 5 sheets of etches.

there is also some brass and nickle rods of various sizes as well.

Now ...... just to decide on a motor and gearbox to suit.

keep an eye open on the build starting this weekend. I think I shall be starting with the loco body, followed by the tender and the loco chassis bringing up the rear. However ..... that could change.

i hope you enjoy a much as I think I will.

    cheers

And the contents are made public - the spiral bound manual is a very nice touch, and all the lovely metal goodies as well.

So five days to warm the soldering iron - is it solar powered - don't forget youre in Scotland better give it a month :avatar:
