Bob and a warm to the forum from an overcast and miserable Dundee Great to have you onboard and look forward to hearing about yourself and your modelling adventures so far Once again welcome to the forum Paul
Thanks for the welcome and today it's sunny Michigan for the moment! I'm hoping to get back into model railways having been away from the hobby for over thirty years but now retiring. Have been slowly building up new stocks of essential items and I recently purchased a Bachmann Class 117 DMU with sound. I was digging into the train box that was shipped to the USA all those years ago and discovered a Lima Class 117 3 car unit that I had completely forgotten about and had never been run. I put it on the test track and it was awful. One of the boxes has a 12.00GBP sticker so figured it's probably worth converting. Then there was a recent article in the Model Railroader or the Hornby Mag about motorized bogies which got me thinking. After searching the web I stumbled on this web site and Keith's article which was really emulating the plan in my head. So I've ordered Hanazono bogies to convert the Lima class 117 using a motor at each end (after discussing with Scale Link the pulling power of these items) and I didn't want find out I should have bought two units in the first place, so they will be on their way soon to the USA. Eventually I will fit a decoder then probably a sound decoder but one step at a time for me. In the meantime Keith's MO will be very valuable to me so many thanks. Cheers & Regards Bob
Delighted you found us. Sounds like an interesting project so feel free to post up your progress with the conversions etc. I'm sure it will make interesting reading. Cheers for now Toto
