That trestle bridge certainly looks the goods ! Nice job indeed and the colouring is perfect. Painting/weathering is always one of those chores that you think to yourself before starting, "what if I f it up ?". Generally, you just got to dive in and have a go and this is proof that all is achievable.

    Cheers, Gary.

True that Gary, it was definitely a sink or swim project...but the fact that I had outlayed very little but time on the bridge as the timber was ripped from some old Oregon planks I had in the shelves made it a low risk choice to start with.

    Kind regards

Hi Peeps, Been a while since I posted last but in that time I managed to put together another kit..The Pikestuff Small Engine house. First time doing a Rix products kit...but still an enjoyable kit with decent injection molded parts.
The structure is actually for the other end of the layout which I started to mess around with on Anyrail6.

This mission was to try out filming a full model build on my workbench from start to finish...something I had not done before but watched a few time on the tube...It turned out to be a good 10 hour editing ordeal which was made even harder by catching Covid during the edit. Those that got through that virus relatively easily are lucky. I am triple vaxed and would not wish what I had on anyone.

Anyways... after a week of doing absolutely nothing...there are still a few mistakes on the film but hey...I'm just having a go at something I haven't done before.

Here are the photo results of the project.

And this is the Link to my Youtube installation. I just managed to sit up for long enough to finish the edit and post this today.

    Kind regards

Just stared reading the monthly MRH magazine and came across my vlog in the pages. Someone saw fit to include my blog as one of the top 5 entries on the Forum . There are so many talented modelers on the MRH Forum that totally caught me by surprise.
I have only been posting my layout updates on the MRH Forum as YouTube installments as I don't care to duplicate all my progress content but it seems to have caught the eye of their editors. Feeling humbled and privileged to get a shout out in the mag.

Now back to laying cardboard down to finish the corner of the timber industry.
Here is a screen shot of the post on MHR mag.

Thanks to everyone who comments, posts and shares their ideas and knowledge on here...it has all contributed to my progress on my layout and in my modeling skills.

    King regards

Gday again...time to move to the next area.
So its been running on my mind how to use all my bits an pieces to complete the planing shed scene in the corner of the layout...this is the area I have...There is plenty of room here but I have to use it wisely.

    20220801_135703.jpg

    Further more...
My trainjunkies backscene has arrived so now I just need to pick up some Masonite to lines the wall in front of the shelving rails. I have been using it temporarily to record shorts on YT but it needs a proper home before the corner gets finalised. very happy with it and I think I may purchase another once this is in place properly.

    20220801_135640.jpg

I have also received 3 new additions to the rolling roster...the first being SP&S Alco RS1 #53...an Atlas Kato DC powertrain I won in an auction for $76...plus postage from the Eastern states. It got all the detail in tact and runs well..except for one thing...the polarity of the motor is reversed compared to all my other locos...the gearing doesn't make it a good MU to anything I have anyway. Overall very happy with it.

    20220801_135604.jpg

The next 2 additions to my fleet are 54foot PS2 hoppers from Walthers...both very nice models in need of some weathering...the price was not great because of shipping from North America but I do like them sitting under my grain elevator.

    20220801_135609.jpg

Back to the planing shed scene...I will be planning the install of my planing shed this week...I have found all the bits I need to complete the model and placed them so I can see what's needed...I will be scratch building some more taller exhaust ducting legs/supports as what I have are not tall enough for whats in the pipe line.

    20220801_144001.jpg

I have a loading hopper from a pre used aggregate loader kit that will be kit bashed into a wood chip loader that will be serviced by 2 kitbashed 2 bay ore hoppers.

    20220801_142442.jpg
    20220801_142623.jpg

There will also be a truck loader that came with the planing shed kit to be linked into the extraction system. I have a spare cyclone and roof panels from the Engine shed kit and will make use of parts in a roof detail kit I have from walthers. Everything else will be scratch built. I plan to duplicate the airing shed from my timber yard scene as well to accompany the planing shed on the far side of the tracks.
First thing is first...I will need to level the area off...because I used the trakrite foam roadbed, this means building up the FFLs flush with the track and access roads.

Here is a mockup of the proposed construction site. The duplicate airing shed will sit in front of the planing shed. This whole area will have the ground built up to top of track.

    20220801_142413.jpg

These are all the parts I have at the moment to get started with...

    20220801_143956.jpg

Well I think that's me all up to date for now...I reckon I will get there one day...

    More to come.

    Kind regards
    Chris

Cheers fella...it's unfortunately due to a undiagnosed illness I have contracted. My balance and energy have been taken but I get a few hour in here and there. The doc has found traces of Ross River virus in my blood. That coupled with inner ear problems and then covid has had me home for over a month. But on the bright side...more train time . Been watching a lot of modeling on the tube which got my modeling mojo back. Will get as much done as I can manage for now.

My eldest son whom is only 11 has been giving me a bit of stick about my low subscription numbers on YT for a while now...not that he had great numbers either... so I decided to give him a run for his money...I got stuck into learning how to edit better with the stock movie maker program on Windows and had the perfect project to tease a few watchers. Turns out that bridge caught a few more eyes than I expected...lol
Got the young fella on the chase now...I lost him to gaming and editing his tube uploads a while back unfortunately...hope this will test his character a bit. :giggle:Will see if hes up to the challenge...I'm not that much of a competitive fella but this sure shut him up...lol...he's actually very supportive and wants to teach me how to use the Filmora editing software he bought himself.
    What a nice bloke.:hammer:

    Kind regards

Sounds like the challenge is on ! The old Windows Movie Maker ain't too bad, that's what I use to make my videos. It does have limitations compared to the newer more fancier editing software, but hey, its for free !

As for the Ross River Fever, look after yourself and get well soon. Like you said, it gives you that little more modelling time. When I had the dreaded Covid, I lost my modelling mojo as it sucked my energy and more importantly, my enthusiasm.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Ok then fellow modellers...
I managed to dig out enough parts...and had to make a few...to come up with one of the most bastardised versions of a woodchip loader my poor brain could imagine.

    First...
I decided to chop a Walthers Agreigate loading bin down to size removing the walkway and conveyer head.

    20220803_102721.jpg 20220803_103139.jpg

The next stage came from what was left of a Walthers New River mining surge bin...the gables were cut from the end walls and the roof cut to length...actually a very good fit.

    20220803_110119.jpg
    20220803_112015.jpg

Next I used what was left of a conveyer housing and butchered it up to fit the left overs from a woodchip truck loader head. These parts cape spare in the Walthers Planing shed kit. All I needed was some bracing to secure the cyclone head and it all came together with a fair bit of filing and cutting.

    20220803_125158.jpg
    20220803_131735.jpg

Next I decided the loader head section needed to be serviceable so I managed to repair and attach various stairs and catwalks I had and attached them in a way that seemed practicle to the operations crew. I then filed down a cut out section of the corregated plastic wall material to finish the build off with an access door at the top.

This is what I have come up with today...Still deciding on weather to paint it or just touch it up and weather it...

    20220803_173327.jpg
    20220803_173338.jpg

Looking forward to getting this all hooked up with the ducting but I still need to modify the dump shoots as they need to be a bit lower to match the hight of the hopper cars that will be parked under it...

    Enough for today...
Cheers for any ideas or criticism...I'm all ears on any solutions you may have.

    Kind regards
    Chris

    G`day Chris,
Magnificent and a great example of kit bashing......:thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:
Regarding the finish......my initial thoughts were to spray the whole thing a base colour and then add any other colours that may be necessary and then weather the structure. This could be a structure that has old bits of corrugated iron, but with new sections added in here and there.......all possible with painting.
    Anyway...that`s my two bobs worth.
    Well done Sir

Great build mate. That has come up a treat.

My woodchip loader is basic, similar to Mike Confalone's one on his Allagash layout...

This may give you some ideas for painting & weathering.

    Cheers, Gary.

Thanks for the ideas...After a fair bit of poking around on the net and looking at pics of various woodchip loading structure I came up with a design that used what I had in my spares box and I finished the loader chutes today. I also decided to go with a base colour, as advised...it was a chalky grey base...

    20220805_125321.jpg 20220805_131234.jpg

I weathered the steel starting with Red paint as a base I then used a mix of Dark brown paint and dabbing earth powder onto it while wet to get some texture on the rust bits.
I finished with a dusting of Ash and Yellow powders to show the dirt and saw dust build up considering its function. I then finished up the model by painting the hand rails white as they are usually a well maintained part of most structures. Once the model is in its place there will be a liberal application of saw dust around and under the structure to accommodate the overflow and spill of product.

Pretty happy with the results...here are the pics.

    Thanks Gary...

I got sick of the green Planing mill so I pulled it out for a bit of weathering.

    20220808_094507.jpg

I carefully was able to remove the roof as the glue was brittle and the used a course sandpaper to rough up the existing finish and applied a light grey chalk finish to the walls.

    20220808_104339.jpg

After repeated lashings of wash with black, light grey, light brown and sand grey I was happy with the results...I am looking to highlight the cover battens to try separate them from the wall cladding.

I also hit the roof with my already tested rusty corregated iron treatment.

Pretty happy with it for now. I applied a coat of dull coat to the inside of the windows to fog them out as I have no internal details for now.

    20220808_154639.jpg 20220808_154653.jpg 20220808_154702.jpg 20220808_154712.jpg

I got hold of a large cardboard box so there is no excuse to not get started on building up the site to track height ready for the structures.
Just need to clean the train room out a bit as its gotten a bit cramped in there.
My wife blames me for the clutter...I did ask to install more shelving but was turned down...you tell me who's causing the traffic jam...lol

    Kind regards
    Chris

Looks good. Will you be adding exterior details such as gutters, down pipes etc...?

    Hi Gary...
I have not thought too much about it...
I am looking at a pile of injection molding waste and believe I can utilise to tube sections for downpipes but am stumped for gutter material. I may just file or sand a tube in half.

I also need to make a large sliding door for the back of the building. I have received a box of roof detail so something in there will end up on the roof after some weathering.

On another note I have moved the track on this siding to create a better space for the buildings as the corner of the module will have a curved backdrop.

    20220809_104048.jpg

I have been cutting and pasting a pile of cardboard today...I didn't get too far as I ran out of cerial box material which I use as a plaster base for flat areas. The main scene has been leleled but there are access roads still to be created.

Some pics from today's short innings...getting close to having to empty the dust collector in the shed for suitable scatter material.

I also did a short teaser for YT for my Subscibers...link below.
