Matt the paint job on the little building is nicely done I agree with Gary with a little toning down using weathering powders.
I’d say the bricks colours are brill… but are they a little too modern looking? Older buildings tended to be more red and orange? Just a thought and I may be vastly wrong..(so don’t take it as a criticism ) the painting of it is superb!! andy
Thanks @Andy_Sollis, feedback is always appreciated and you are probably right, however the colours aren't quite so "new brick" in reality. Work continues with the long low relief warehouse wall - roof slates now underway. There are also another two buildings I forsee being needed, work has started on the first of these... Current plan is for this to be at the very front of the layout to give the effect of trains running behind things. Matt
Matt this is some lovely modelling. I do like the resin brick sheets, the brickwork looks crisp. The drain pipe and guttering looks great.
Thanks @Mark4mm. Here's a mock up of what I'm trying to achieve visually with trains running behind and in front of the scenery. Thanks Matt
Thank you @Mark4mm . I've started cladding the previously under construction building in embossed sheet. Still untrimmed here! Matt
Thank you very much @Gary! I've made good progress and it's starting to come together. Hopefully I'll be able to share some progress soon. Matt
And here is one shot following on from my earlier mock up photos. The building is now fully clad and the doors have been completed. Next up is the roof and details like the guttering and downpipes. I'll take some up close photos once I've made some more progress. Matt
I've been plodding away with completing the roof...which isn't worthy of a photograph! In the meantime, this is the kind of view I want to create. It'll obviously look better with scenery etc! Matt
Hello again, Finally, after the best part of a week, the building I've been working on is 98% complete. The remaining 2% need doing once the walls are painted. Originally I'd planned on applying individual slates to the roof. However things went awry when I was 70% of the way through and I couldn't fix it without resorting to removing them all. Having done that, I couldn't face cutting 100s more out and starting again so used self-adhesive slates from York Modelmaking. The (rather fetching) blue roof is all individually applied though! Another small project I've been considering are telegraph poles. I'm not satisfied with the Peco/Ratio ones however. They're easy enough to build from scrap materials, but I'm yet to find a source of suitable insulators and steps - any suggestions? Matt
Hi Matt Great progress, don't know how, but I'd missed the recent updates, however enjoyed catching up. Paul
They look great but can I be a bit picky. At the end of a row of slates instead of half a slate or less they usually have a long slate half as wide again as an ordinary one. I only say this because I did the same as you and was told it would look better with a wider one.
I've actually been waiting for someone to say that! I accept my roof may not be 100% accurate, but I have seen similar roofs with cut slates. Appreciate they wouldn't be cut as narrow as mine have been, but that's a consequence of not measuring before building the roof.
Probably as they used strips of pre-cut tiles as well which only come as full size, no extra wide Paul
Next building under construction - this is likely to be the last substantial structure needed for the layout. Not sure of its purpose, likely to be a garage/industrial lockup. Construction is from card, simply because I had some. End walls are brick. This is loosely based on a real structure which has concrete walls, brick ends and a corrugated roof - a combination I liked. Not a massive fan of having a slightly opened door with the cliché "stuff" shoved in the gap, but it works in this instance. Also under construction is a small lean to to be placed at the right hand side. Matt
