Thank you for the kind comments, and especially for POTW, I am very grateful! @Andy_Sollis , you can have one if you like!
Now I've got the garage out of my system, I'm back on track with some completed wagons to share. I can't remember I've already posted these - don't think I have, but apologies if so. First up, Ratio ex-LMS 12t van #1: built from the box as intended. Ratio ex-LMS 12t van #2: this time built with a Parkside underframe. The next few were all originally built some 10 - 15 years ago, stripped down, repaired and repainted. Parkside Plywood sided van: Parkside 24.5t mineral wagon: Parkside 21t Tube wagon: Matt
Hello all, Another one off the production line. I started this months ago, but never got around to finishing it. Not sure why it took so long. Matt
Hi Andy, Pretty simple really. The grey is regular neutral grey, and the red is just a standard red (both Tamiya acrylics). I sprayed both "as they come", then oversprayed the whole thing with a very diluted coat of white. This tones down the colours and fades the red in particular. Easier to do than explain. I don't use any enamels at all, all my painting is done with acrylics. The only time I use enamels is for basic brown washes. Matt
I've not used Tamiya paints for over 30 years. Never got on with them (dried to quick with a brush.) Using Vallejo now. Andy
Hello all, After what seems like an age, I've actually done some layout work instead of faffing around with stock. I've been very focused on my 1/48 aircraft recently so it's been nice to have a change of subject. First up, however, was a tidy up because the layout had become a bit of a dumping ground! So here's the state of play. The first decision was, sadly, to remove the garage building from the equation. I've started building the "road" from a combination of card and foamboard. The visible gap in front of the house will be covered by a pavement. I also added a sub-base, again from foamboard, with a cutout for the building. This may enable it to remain removable in the future. Note also the very primitive point control system! Finally, the building set into its foundation. Work has started on the rest of the road too, more photos when I've made some progress. Matt
Matt pleased you started work on the layout, it's nice to see where the different buildings are going to be situated.
Nice update Matt, the buildings are excellent . How are you getting on with point switching wires? The 2 90 degree bends look like they may flex in operation? Cheers, Pete.
Hi Pete, It's admittedly not ideal. There's basically two "L" shaped pieces of wire, secured with a piece of tube over the join and Araldite'd together. No idea how long it will last in all honesty, time will tell I guess! It does flex in operation, but as the movement is minimal, it's not an issue. A better solution would have been one piece of wire, with no bends - but I didn't have space for that. Matt
