Are you two ganging up on me, write off the easy one and leave me the more difficult one. And before you say it I did ask! :faint:

See that's what you get when you ask questions - the answers come back as bigger challenges - all in the name of learning.

    Looks good.

Now if the clock kept the correct time, that would be interesting :avatar:

Coatrack challenge accepted, although I might change them to a simple j hook. As for the clock I had a go at making it run to time but time ran out!

Of course whats a coat hook without a coat :avatar:

May be worth rotating the screw heads away from vertical, as it may make the heads vulnerable to breaking off during the print process.

I tend to put them at angles.. not everyone had ocd back then. So 20deg. 30deg off centre?

A coat hook is still a coat hook, coat or no coat - I'm not rising to the bait. It's stays a coat hook end of.

    Ok gents, next daft question..

i have downloaded some character “people” (ok, it’s the Ghostbusters if you must know….) but they have come as STL files and they have come in parts… ie body, head, proton packs… etc..

i want to rescale them but ideally I need to put them all together as one item to do this as I want to adjust the full model to a human scale height so don’t know what % I would need to do them at?

anyway, my normal choice of program doesn’t allow STL files to stick to one another only move… if I use fusion, is there any kind of magnet that pulls one item to another when they are pre drawn? So I can build the model and then scale it before printing?

I reckon that's a Paul/Rob question. You can import a .stl as a mesh and then move and manipulate it about before exporting a new .stl. They don't need to be attached to each other, but all that's a right faff about hopefully the boys know a better way.

Possibly but I haven't tried it. If you import each item and see if you can designate it as a component rather than the more usual body.
You can then assemble the components by telling Fusion which point fits to which point on the next component.

That sounds like what I need to do, but in fusion, I have no idea how to do so…?

Meshmixer - allows you to work on STL's.

Work on them at the full size, and virtually glue them together. Then save as an stl. Finally resize the model height in Chitubox / Lychee / Photon Workshop ave height would be between 5'6" to 5'10" (38 to 41 mm in 7mm:1ft or 21.5 to 23.5 in 4mm)

:scratchchin::scratchchin: Knowing how to use Meshmixer would help! :hammer::hammer:

Guess I can’t do any harm if I don’t press save! Lol

Open the first file - then save as a new file name, then add / change as much as you like.

Fusion 360 & 123D will also import stl, I think Fusion will allow more manipulation, but I'm sure you can join stl's together in 123D, and then scale the result.

If all else fails send me the stl's and I will have a go in Fusion and share how I did it (if I am successful that is...).

    Gents

I need your expertise again. I need to draw a truncated cone, I know the base diameter, height at the truncation and the diameter at the truncation. It has to be something to do with a sweep but I'm blowed if I can get it to work. At a guess my starting point is wrong but .......

Hi Mossy not Sweep, but lofting.

See youtube video below. Just create two sketches of the diameters required, and at the distance apart. The loft tool (in the create menu) will then create a skin between the two profiles.

    Hope that helps

Dumpfkop not surprising I couldn't get it to play nice, I had already got two sketches done the correct distance apart so lofting the two was easy so on with the rest of my westie brake cylinder. Thanks Paul.

Once I had used loft not sweep the rest of the westie brake dropped nicely into place

    2021-12-10.png

I already have a reserve air cylinder drawn (one of my early "tutorial" projects) but sadly the Dia 25 drawings don't show its position, that will have to be ad-libed, then its just a case of adding the plumbing to connect the brake and reserve tank to the westie pipe run.

This project is getting close to complete as I already have appropriate W Irons, Springs and Clasp Brake gear drawn. I might have to go back and play with those chains on the R1 Coke wagon. Woah, woah and thrice woah beware the ides of ...... December.
