Ordered this some time ago on the back of seeing Kimbos build. Still waiting delivery but meanwhile ....... these arrived this morning. I ordered one set for now although I am awaiting the MOK version to come back into stock any day now so a second set will be required. I'll post up the photos as usual when they arrive. cheers toto
All those wheels and no where for them to go, mnid you I can't say too much as I have several sets of wagon wheels with no idea what the will support, I must have had an idea what they were to be used for when I bought them - of course by the time I've remembered what I wanted to build, I'd have forgotten where I put them safely away Paul
Plunger pick ups easy to do, you obviously have to drill the side frames to accept them on the ACE kit (MOK kit, no doubt will be pre drilled for that option) So easy in fact that I did the tender if you remember, I’ve had no trouble what so ever with power pick up, even on the odd bit of dirty track. Horn blocks if I did the build again, I’d only fit the center axle with them, I think all three was a bit of over kill.
ACE kit arrived this morning. Lovely fresh etches, some bags of lost wax brass and a load of white metal fittings. Pictures later. Toto
Ordered up fluted coupling rods from slaters. Still to decide on hornblocks but have some in stock anyway if I decide to give them a go. Same with plunger pick ups. Cheers Toto
Here we go ....... So where is this in the build list, 4F, Q1 (SR not LNER), Ramsbottom (completion) maybe Paul
and the photos.... and out of the box ..... an exploded diagram with some of the build details .... there are more in the general instructions ...... speaking of which ...... bags .... mainly white metal but some lost wax brass as well and a rolled boiler section..... nickle silver chassis parts ...... brass tender parts ...... loco body in brass ..... horn blocks and plunger pick ups which are additional to the kit. and there we have it. Looks ok and I am confident that it has the potential to make a reasonable kit ..... it has already been proven by Kimbo of this parish. I'm thinking that maybe a little more strengthening may need added as the parts are ( in my opinion ) a little flimsy but ..... as I said ..... it has been done before. cheers toto
Flippin' Eck, it's a long way from Edinburgh to the Southern, but Toto's got there! What's next then Tom, "Merchant Navy"??? Keith.
Hi Keith ...... never say never. The Q1 is definitely one of those pet projects. In fact two of those pet projects as there will be a second Q1 coming from MOK. The reason being the sheer build of it. You should check out their site and when you get to the Q1 page ..... hit the " what's inside the box " button and it shows you different parts of the build. Very unusual build process and it just looks like a dream to do. So whether or not the Q1 will ever see daylight on any actual layout is another thing altogether. Toto
Fluted coupling rods landed today. Dont think I've missed anything now. Ready and waiting for the build. Cheers Toto
Toto nice pictures of your kit build parts, will be looking forward to watching this build when you start it.
