I came across the following 9 minute video on YouTube showing a interesting way of connecting 2 wires together. It shows 2 poor methods and 1 good one ... so go in about 6.5 minutes if you only want to watch the good method. It obviously works well with stranded wire. Thick single strand wire would probably not go so well.

The most amazing thing is how many views this got !!! By this standard Gormo's video's should get 100,000,000 easy. :worship:

What an amazing number of views. I’m quite excited as well because I have alway joined stranded wire like that.

    G`day Chris,
    Thanks for your flattering comment....
I think this video could have been shortened to just the last technique instead of all the "Oh golly..that doesn`t work, try this next method ", however at 38,000,000 views it just goes to show that some people are easily pleased.
I have seen another method that would suit under baseboard wire joins in hard to access areas, but I can`t remember the video details.
The essence of it is the same as the last method in the video above, however before the wires are joined you slide some suitable size heat shrink tube onto one of the wires. Next you join the wires. Then you cut a short length of solder and wrap it around the bare wire to form a solder coil but not too close to the insulation.
Then put a flame ( match ) under the solder and melt the solder onto the wire. When the solder has cooled, slide the heat shrink tubing over the bared, soldered wire and apply a flame to shrink the tubing.
You now have a soldered wire join that is insulated and has integrity.

An even better version ... thanks Gormo. I will definitely try this as my previous attempts at joining wires have been mediocre at best.
