also found an issue on Fusion where converting to drawing is changing the colours.. May now need to update my graphics card.

Can also be your display, some display technologies are blue tinted (cool), others red (warm), for true reproduction between graphics card, display and printer they all need to be colour calibrated together, can't remember how that's done, probably needs a reference card and specific inks (not 3rd party cheapies) for you printer and fine adjustments to your display device, and of course the scanner if you are using one.

No the colours are the same ones as used for the face. You physically see it change in the same program (so I can rule out my screen although it’s a very valid point !) it’s a known issue listed on fusions website. Just says update the graphics card which I’ve done and no change.
I’m just trying the laptop instead as totally forgot about my sons computer as that’s already windows 11, and see how that works.. but guess what, it also needs an update!

I haven't done any work on the file you sent me so let me know if using your sons PC resolves the problems your having. I will hang fire with changing the file you sent me till you can update me.

Now. The issue rested solely with Fusion.. kind of.. it seems that there are settings in the design , ie shadow etc that has an effect on the drawing stage. Silly, but yes. It also changed when you orientate the part by 90 degrees. I had the face looking up and it made the design setting dark.
However, rotate round by 90 degrees to stand upright and face the light source and the drawings come out correct!

now to set up for a test print on the laser printer.

Printed the work of mossy and myself out today..

    IMG_2448.jpeg
    doesn’t look too bad.

but the great thing with 3D drawing is you can “turn on and off” parts in fusion, so I can hide most of the drawing and just print the boxes.
    IMG_2447.jpeg

I knew the overall shape Mossy had drawn was correct from the earlier test print, but I’d made changes with the font sizes and text spacing to look a little more like the original.

I decided to try this first off. Easier to lay out and compare..

    IMG_2449.jpeg
oddly, despite measures taken, and printing to 100% they look under scale, so I’ll double check the measurements and widen the boxes. Height wise was ok, so at some point we have got something wrong. It could well have been my dark photos with reflection off the ruler making it hard to interpret the measurement, I don’t know.
Anyway, we shall give it a mod and another whirl tomorrow and see what we get.

The spacing problem could well be down to the font, the spacing would depend on what the width of a space was set to withing the font. We didn't know which font was used on the original, so I chose the one which to me was the closest to it.

Height you should be able to control by editing the text on the f3d file, it has to be specified in mm's not points, that would also affect the spacing so I would fix the height first.

It’s most annoying that googling and playing with most settings won’t seem to loose the black outlines.

I may have to see if I can invest it a photo editing software that allows Adobe files to be edited..

or just suck it up and accept it.

    IMG_2453.jpeg
None of the boxes should have a black outline. It’s added by fusion . Same with the white text on the red background.
I also need to see if I can print in some glossy photo paper rather than the cheap stuff. See if having a shine helps the final printed colours.

I was never happy with the front beading for the glass, and the other day dropped on some that was the right shape and size, although the wrong type of wood.
I’ve been trying some stains and the shellac to try and match it in..

    IMG_2444.jpeg
even had to do the lower one twice, so here is that one raw and the others after a first wipe of the mahogany die.
    IMG_2445.jpeg
    it looked a little pink!

    IMG_2454.jpeg
but after 3 it’s beginning to blend in. Next to add some shellac.

    G`day Andy,
I would be tempted to try some Teak stain on that beading before you Shellac. Mahogany tends to be reddish.
Also different timbers will give different colour results to the one colour of stain. Most likely, the original beading was made from the same timber as the instrument cabinet, so with new, different timber beading, you need to do some colour testing first to establish which colour stain works best on the new timber to match the old.
I would strongly advise that you test it first on an off cut before you go anywhere near the beading on the instrument.
The other alternative is to add some stain to the Shellac and try that, once again on an off cut, bearing in mind that each subsequent coat with stain coloured Shellac will make the finish darker.
Is it possible to remove the beading and colour it away from the instrument...???
This would avoid any stain creeping onto what you have already finished on the cabinet.

It’s getting there. Some of it is down to the lighting. The shellac has pulled it around to blend in and it’s had a two further coats since these photos.
Sadly, I’d already gone and done this (although I had done some test strips along side) when I got your reply @gormo . Oh well. Teak may have been a good shout. However at £3 for about 6 ft of strip wood, it can always redo it again.

I’ve been sorting the photos out for a friend who wants to make a video (he is part of a signalling group) going back 18 months I’ve got over 370 pictures!
Not sure how I managed that? And some have been edited out since.

And so, with many thanks to @Mossy, my father in law and Peter in Kilmacolmn I’m now calling phase 1 done. The block is restored and finished.

here is a photo dump of it outside this aft.

    IMG_2632.jpeg IMG_2633.jpeg IMG_2634.jpeg IMG_2635.jpeg IMG_2636.jpeg IMG_2637.jpeg IMG_2638.jpeg IMG_2639.jpeg IMG_2640.jpeg

Phase 2 will be to create a back board to mount the bell box on like my friend Nick Allsop’s, below

    3222879e-04a4-4ae9-bd11-1b1682157869.jpeg

Phase 3 will be the simulator from Peter once it’s been created.

So that may be it for a while now.

My part in this rebuild was very minor, the vast amount of work was all your doing. Why has it jumped from Leek Yard to Glebe Siding or are they interchangeable depending on your mood. It looks absolutely superb well done mate.
