The chassis has had the silver and white paint applied. Silver for the buffers and white for the foot steps and handbrakes. The axle boxes and discharge door lock release handles will be over painted in yellow soon. D1AD506F-7DA0-4578-8511-FDCDA2CE1303.jpeg this just leaves (for the chassis) the wheels to fit, couplings, air pipe and lamp brackets.

The hopper top is currently in the paint booth.

Sit and leave it to dry for a day or so, and then gentle rub back with some wet and dry before a wash and top coat.

Meanwhile the chassis has been slowly progressing. The yellow and red has now been added. (Yellow axle boxes and the bottom of the release handles- Red for the brake pipe in to the distributor and what I believe is a discharge lever and the brackets where the top door open/close handle is located.

I’ve also fitted the couplings and had to make some new (3D printed again) lamp brackets as I managed to screw up the 4 brass brackets I had. Air pipes to fit and then some small touch ups.
    820B0714-6EB8-435F-AAD0-7C7A597E69CD.jpeg

Then we are on to the wheels and also the builders plates.

then once the top is done, we can mate the two halves, add some transfers and were done... still have the deadline to meet!
Now I’m awaiting some transfers being printed, but if they don’t arrive in time I do have a fall back set from ones I laser printed myself.

Well I decided not to rub it back and add a second coat as I was happy with how it came out. So now it’s dried, the two halves have been mated.

few little bits to do then I’ll secure the two halves together and add the wheels. I’m looking forward to having 2 together. Best get cracking on the 3rd and final.

Probably not. These are destined for 3 separate owners for display (one hopefully in the museum at our station.) so if any it will be minimum.
Although I have many photo references and the real thing, I wouldn’t know where to even start other than black. I don’t use an airbrush, only brushes and rattle cans.
That said, I have noticed there is one part I’ve missed on both than needs a bit of muck to highlight, and that’s the filters on the sides. we’re not quite at the finish line yet...

    watch this space!

Today was spent fitting the wheels.
Bought all three pairs last year which come with bearings.

They fit very well and run very smooth.
    4D30185C-9367-4C0C-BA8C-586B0F6A491F.jpeg

The bearing cups just gently push fit in to the back of the axle boxes.
    B4D7551A-189C-49B8-A59D-F904C5887BA6.jpeg

You can then fit one end in and gently ease the chassis outwards to drop the other axle pin in.
    A0CB4E93-C01F-41A7-B26D-31446FA2C2DC.jpeg
sit nicely with the brake hangers.

    And all done.

One issue I have found now it’s on its wheels is either the buffers (which are moulded and not sprung) are over size or the Peco instanter couplings are too short.

    BB4A0A39-EA3D-408F-A4E1-D5FBFC203EF7.jpeg

It doesn’t want to reach when it’s all the way out...

    37C514C7-819E-4049-A3CD-186EF9F95C6E.jpeg

No chance when shortened. Not sure if I’ve the wrong length couplings?
    Any thoughts?

Just taking it back a bit, here is how they start off.. (just for info and not part of the completion entry)

this is the third one to be done.. however, it may become the 4th or part of it. The original wagons were built as single doors so looked very different at the ends and on the roof.
    929B480A-1F4A-4F59-AE71-DE177BDB9D5A.jpeg

No so apparent from the side.

You can see the lower hopper and upper hopper. I’ve 3D printed a swap top and if I can replicate the lower half of the hopper I’ll make one up as the single originally as built version.

Here it is before the lids are glued on.
I’ll post up some details of the ends so you can see the difference and what has already been done to the shelf queen entry.

I’ve had this problem with a kit built wagon from MM models. It does eventually couple up but the hook has to pull out so far under tension from the buffer beam that it causes the wagon to derail on curves. The solution was to change the links to slightly bigger one which resolved the issue and at normal viewing distance, does not look out of place.

So after a 6hr print, I have managed to create a 4th hopper. I now need to spend another few hours printing a new hopper lid as I’ve made a total error on the original one with one of the orientation indents for another part.

    3ED884BA-0812-48EE-8BC6-38253F30A7C1.jpeg 89A7213A-E0DE-496C-961D-B9D153F20E22.jpeg

these need a little clean up with a file, I’ll now look at ordering a new chassis and the super detail parts..

back to the original shelf queen..

Still need to sort the couplings. And then add the transfers.

So as it’s closing date, best post my final entry.

just spent the last 30 mins applying the top transfers. These are my own design and home printed (well, work!) and so have self weathered.. (rubbed) but then so did the real thing.

So apart from a few touch up items, that only left the builders plates to fit.
These again were my own design to the WH Davies outline, and printed via Shapeways.

    Small!!

once glued to the wagon with a drop of super glue,we go for the official photos. 45C8DF2B-96FE-4745-847D-00A87B9819A7.jpeg

side 2 2426B683-C131-455B-8ABA-2B652760F931.jpeg and finally, a litttlw bit of history. These were found/rescued from the Weighbridge at Oakamoor Sand sidings where the wagon served. Who knows... one of these may well have been in the same batch and attached to BIS 7954.??

unfortunately, the transfers ordered for the chassis have not arrived in time so will have to be fitted at a later time. Guessing that some companies are busy!

So, that’s it, we’re over the sand line!

thanks for following (although I will post details of the single too wagon as it progresses.
