While I was wasting time on farcebook yesterday I came across a post by the Ashover Light Railway society of which I am a follower, announcing a publicity event in Clay Cross at the towns Christmas fair, I have offered to bring a diorama featuring the bridge that crossed the main Chesterfield to Clay Cross road known as the Pirelli bridge locally, now the fair is only 3 weeks or so away on the 3rd of December so I really need to get my finger out, luckily I have some of the models built by a gentleman who was a huge fan of the ALR who sadly passed away a couple of years ago in my safe keeping gifted to my local club by his family, he was definitely a gifted modeller and had built most of the structures on the line as well as most of the rolling stock, I already have a base board built and today I have built the legs for it, it is 4ftx2ft and stands 40" high. Here is the bridge, you can see why it was called what it was. Thats all for now, I need to get my book on the ALR so I can build the small station halt by the bridge, plus take some photos of the topography for the scenery. Wish me luck, cheers, Pete.
My young friend in our village who was responsible for getting me back into model railways is now a Trustee of the Ashover Light Railway Society. They now have a base on the 'Peak Rail' site between Matlock and Rowsley, with a short test track apparently. Keith.
Hi Andy, I wasn't able to get it anywhere near showable unfortunately, mostly down to my dithering . I finished up returning it to the club, Clay Cross MRS when I left. However, I have been told the layout now has someone re-working it for exhibiting, so maybe when we can get to shows again it may be out and about, I for one hope so! Cheers, Pete.
