These vans are coming up a treat Paul and are going to make up a nice looking parcel train when you get the decals and weathering finished. The weathering on the first one you did really looks the part was a worthy photo of the week subject. http://www.click
Really look the part. Maybe should be calling you Van Gough. Bit of an artist. That'll be Tany and Vany. Glad I got the spelling right there. Have a nice day now. Toto
Cheers Guys These ones will the first I've used an airbrush on for weathering. Lors of firsts on this thread for me
Now I know why RTR is so popular - transfers. Its taken most of today to get one set of numbers to work. Step 1 Use a piece of masking tape to act as a guide line I'm using Presfix transfers, my usual preference in water slide tranfers and Humbrol Decal fix. Each time I used the decal fix, the previous transfer would lift Reverted to water to remove the backing paper, and I'm getting there Then remove the masking tape guide Need to let them dry, then seal with varnish. Paul
Very tricky to work with. I tried renumbering a couple of class 47's some time ago. Limited success and went through a shed load of transfers. The yellow sets off well against the maroon though. Worth the effort. Toto
I know what you are going through, I,m using some old presfix transfers on my GWR wagon, I was told the best way to get them to stick, (they had lost their stickyness) was to use meths, which I have, it do,es work eventually, water to lift the backing paper then sealed them with Humbrol Matt Cote, I think half the problem was trying to get them to stick to a matt surface, once I had painted the surface gloss black they went on better. Pete.
Cheers Pete I had sprayed gloss varnish on but the is a texture to the surface, which isn't helping. I will try meths tho', cant be any worse, a whole day to get 1 letter and 4 numbers on. I've been looking at Fox Transfers water slide, for both these and my DMU's, I will need several sets tho , aw well ..... Paul
Get the video out and show me how - I'm willing to try most things, given enough instructions - ask Morag, after 29 years I'm almost at the stage of being able to wash the dishes, but still need regular reminders of how its done Paul
Paul your not alone with the Decal battles I've had ones go on like a dream on one side of a wagon only for the other side to be a right pig. One thing you can try is, too mask the area the decal is going, give it a light rub with super fine wet and dry paper do it wet as will give a nice smooth surface. then gloss clear cote that area, apply the decal then seal with a dull cote (mat) clear. The gloss clear brings back the finish after the wet and dry (some times will have a milky appearance) and gives a nice surface for the decal the dull Cote restores the mat finish. Good luck with all the others hopefully will all go smoothly now.http://www.click
Fingers crossed - actually, that don't half make sanding difficult Thanks Chris, I will get there, that or there will be a pile of BG's hitting ebay in several hundred bits Paul
The hard stuff as well....... No white Lightening for you ....... or buckie ......... straight to the meths.
Well the hard stuff worked Used meths to wet the transfer, but had to apply water for the backing paper to release. Then when I tried to apply the second number the W started to lift. Managed to get both down, so applied a coat of Humbrol Gloss cote. Once dry then applied the next number, and got away without having to apply further coats of gloss untill the maining numbers were applied. Another coat of Gloss cote, once dry - tomorrow, I can start and weather the hell out of it. Paul
