You know I live about 10 miles from SQ and visit regularly, but haven't been along to the jetty for a while. What idiot thought it was a good idea to build that carbuncle on it ( I take it it's the new coast guard station ) I think these people must take lessons in ' How to spoil an Iconic View' It should at least have been single story and in keeping with the picturesque buildings that ARE south Queensferry Grumble grumble grumble Grumpy Matt
Would have thought they really need to knock them down and get the Ferries running again to make up for the other bridge down the road that's broken.....
Great pics Paul. I have some very old railway engineering books and this bridge was one of the early engineering icons of the time. Priceless. Thanks for sharing. Gary.
In true Scottish thriftiness, we designed and built one of the 7 wonders of the modern world, then get the English to pay for it Paul
I here post a photographed photo by Sir William Arrol & Co. Ltd (Bridge Builders) which was published in Railway Wonders Of The World, Vol 1, page 436-437, by Amalgamated Press Limited, London 1935. It is hereby used for 'non profit, educational, scholarly or research use only'. If you have the slightest inkling that I have breached copyright, which I believe I have not, as I have provided all details (above) remove the post immediately. Regards, Gary.
The road bridge almost looked liked that before christmas..... On the south side in South Quensferry (suprise suprise) there a lovely resturant (Pub) The Hawes Inn - Wednesday is Pie day mmmmmmm.... I digress, inside are photographs of when it was used as a hospital building while the bridge was being built. The view opposite is of the bridges shown above. Paul
Those stepped gable ends are interesting, never seen them like that on a building before, something different to model.
Here's a couple that might be interesting: The Tamar Road Bridge in the foreground with the Royal Albert Bridge behind The bridge over the River Tavy on the Gunnislake Line.
Glen Finnan or now known as the Harry Potter bridge looking the other way And yes the heavens opened up while walking back to the car Paul
Good to see the bridge pictures as they are such a popular element of the model railway. Gives a bit food for thought and helps out with these all important details. Glad to see your camera is working overtime again Bittern. Your images have always been excellent. The more the merrier. How is your layout coming along ? Cheers Toto
Trevennan stalled at the moment Toto, and Hingstone is also under review. I'm getting there slowly, trouble is I get too many distractions. Birds (feathered etc comes to mind)
Back at the Hawes Inn for a meal to celebrate my young lads 25th birthday, and couldn't resist this pic - sorry about the quality the phones not that great. Paul
