With a bit of spare time today I made a start on making the pipework assemblies for the fountain header on the 9F, I may have time tomorrow to complete pipework down onto the drivers side in which case the body will then be ready to take primer paint. Below the fireman's side on the chassis are located the water valves and injectors which sit on a bracket on the loco frames, these castings will be replaced with better detail ones from Ragstone and this will be the last bit of plumbing to undertake.
I’ll be interested to watch the lower half pipe work, see how it should look as fed up of it coming loose on the OO Hornby and Bachmann models. See how it should be positioned.
The wate The water valves and injectors are located on a bracket below the cab, they sit side by side as outside and inside units, the water valves in this kit are complete with pipework as decent whitemetal castings but the kit only came with one injector unit so I shall replace them with lost wax items from Ragstone. All this assembly will be soldered to the chassis frame so should remain strong and stable.
All the associate pipework plumbing from the fountain block over the firebox has now been completed along with some other pipe runs into the conduit casing. Here are a few pics of the result.
thanks Rob... your eye for pedantic detailing has rubbed off on me... are you going to Guildex this year ? If so I'll bring the 9F along with me to show
Hi Paul, Yes, I am running the GOG modelling competition now, so I will be there each year until I either need a change, or they discontinue the competition at some point in the future. I have just this last week sorted out and ordered all the trophies. If you plan to be there all day on the Saturday why not consider entering it into the modelling competition? Presentations are at 4PM
No, to be honest we don't really have room for each model to be placed on a diorama and it might distract from the quality of the model itself.
Wow ........ see what I missed Looking realy nice ...... shame the paint hides most of that lovely brass and copper. Paul
No you haven't missed anything, some of the bare brass build pics where taken a few weeks beforehand. The black Halford's primer makes a good base and lightly spot spraying gloss varnish for the transfers application was more recent, on the 9F as an unlined all black freight loco its really only the cabsides which take gloss varnish. Currently I've just coated the whole body in matte varnish prior to weathering ... photos tomorrow once the loco is dry.
