As I do not have a fiddle yard on my layout, Quite some time back I made six cassette's, now withstock growth making another six,as I have just built two decent sized sliding shelves under my layoutwhich will accommodate all twelve easily, these are my type of storage cassette's so as not to handle loco's and stock ( well not too often anyway) Materials I used:- 6mm MDF, Aluminium Angle,1.5mmspacers(white), two sizes Pop sticks, Dowelling, and 2mm screws/washers/nuts. I remove a section of road and bridge to expose contacts for supplying power to Aluminium sides Once train is driven on slide cassette out and replace Pop stick barrier, to stop anything tries to define gravity whilst lifting on/off layout http://www.clickFor viewing, It may give some idea / idea's RALPH
That is very neat and tidy, good job on the cassettes. Would I be right saying (guessing) that they are approximately 2' long ?? Cheers, Gary.
Hi Ralph Nice cassettes, a piece pan scourer at either end can also stop / reduce the tendancy for the stock to move during transport http://saveonsupplies.co.uk/epages/www_saveonsupplies_co_uk.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/www_saveonsupplies_co_uk/Products/5912 Cheaper ones available from many discount shops. This looks to be a great idea that could solve my space (or lack of) problem. My layout is overcrowded with loco's and rolling stock and I've partly got around the problem by fitting 7 'sidings' on a shelf under the layout on which some of my 'overflow' stands, but if I want to use it, I have to move stock item by item from the 'siding' and similarly move unneeded stock back there from the layout. Being able to move trains "en bloc" would be a boon to me with less handling and risk of damage. I'll be having a closer look at this in the near future. Keith.
