I've just had a play around with the bodyshell and skeleton and in its current state its a good fit, perhaps anneal the cantrail curves tomorrow in daylight and then tack the skeleton in place... I'll look at the cabs too and if poss get those shifted on as well.
No worries. If it doesn't need any stiffening .... no problem ..... lets not go there but if it does ..... It'll get it. looking forward to seeing the body coming together. great stuff .... toto
Take it the roof ribs don't foul the cantrail appatures like the instructions suggest? As I got that skeleton the wrong way round on the virtual build.
All looks good to me... counting from the rad end on the left the third rib sits to the right of the left hand engine room window, the fourth rib sits to the right of the engine compartment door and everything else clears nicely.
It's looking very nice Yorkie - I will need to get the finger out and send you some more bits, looks like I'm holding you back , I'll be getting the lord and master on my back next Paul
Just had a thought? Wonder if I've sent out the rad grill mesh with the thicker bar meant for the later 33?
Yes Andrew that was the name I couldn't recall also on my last post... nice thing with them is they will do a complete number which saves having to line up every letter at the correct spacing. Do you have any examples of using Railtec ?
No I'm fine for a few days yet, what I will need is the rest of the bogie stuff and the new cab bits fairly soon as I'm on with the bodyshell right now. Then if I get any down time waiting I'll crack the 25 kit open and start on the sub assemblies... or I could make a start on the display case or even the diorama scenics. Best dust off the cobwebs on my static grass applicator . Or I could go back to my three steamer builds and layout extension or start designing a nice long bow string bridge for my new layout plan, well you know what I mean Dundee... funny how folk like us from Staffordshire seem to have 98 hours in a working day. to the madness everyone.
Isn't if strange how some components of a kit can take ages to complete and yet others you can storm through, well today was no exception and after a little jigging around I squared up the bodyshell and soldered it onto the inner skeleton framework without any problems, next job was to add the cabs and after soldering them around the edges on the skeleton base plate profile they took on their correct curved front contour. I was especially pleased when the resin test piece which Dundee Paul had made went in place like a glove. This was followed by the front roof dome which perfectly met the top of the cab sides which I had tweaked inwards slightly to maintain the correct shape. Lots more to do and lots of cleaning up still to do but all in all I think this has been a very rewarding weekends work. The one area I did have to fight with was trying to create a more uniformed cantrail curve, the body profile is a lot better now after a touch of heat from my micro flame and some delicate persuasion using a round dowl and rolling to iron out the straight line crease, anyway here are the pics... enjoy. And a view of what will be D5310 posing on the North Staffordshire branchline of Elton Crossing my home private diorama. In the background is the Class 24 build ... the reigns of which will soon be taken up again along with the Class 25 all of which form part of a grand plan.
Hot stuff. These are really starting to look the part. How did you find the interface between the resin and brass ? Toto
In a nut shell Toto... magic ... a very smooth transition I won't be fitting these Anycubic Resin parts as they just act as formers, I'll wait for the next delivery of goodies to arrive from the 3D technology laboratory and fit the later cab roof ones with corners. So now its out with the rivet embosser to detail all the roof panels.
If you mean to roof panels Steve yes you have thanks as I've just finished embossing them, they will get fitted early this week so I can bring the body to a conclusion.
