Well, Some may recall that my oldest, bestest, newest buddy Gormo posted up a piece of engineering ovation as a solution to his track cleaning requirements. I just happened to mention that the R & GLR was badly needing a good clean and before you could say " that doesn't half scrub up well " hey presto ........... look at what came through the post. Only my own R & GLR personalised track cleaning maintenance vehicle ....... all the way from Oz. Gypsy and Buddy would be chuffed with such a fantastic addition to their namesake layout. ( not to mention myself ). Some great detailing with the various name plates and technical info etc. and another, and another, and a shot of the skid. I've also been supplied with a life times worth of spare skids ...... and a shot of the inside with the added weight and the fixings which go down through into the skid to keep it in place. What can I say really apart from a huge thanks. A fantastic thing to do for someone. Not just a gift but time and effort that went into it as well. It shall take pride of place on the layout and even when its not in use, there will be a siding to have it standing at the ready to be called upon when needed at a minutes notice. Its my bestest, newest, favouritest gizzmo now. cant thank you enough Gormo ........ Champion. Toto
G`day Folks, As I`ve mentioned to Toto, this cleaning car is firstly a tool and secondly a model. The detail was added to dress it up from it`s rather humble beginnings, however greater care could have been taken with it. The thing is, that it is purely a tool and will be handled quite a lot......has to be to clean it etc....and eventually it will show the ravages of time quite a lot quicker than normal rolling stock. Therefore no point in focusing too much on the detail but rather do enough so that it blends into the background when parked somewhere waiting to be used. The wagon has been tested on GCJ and works well but it needs a loco with some good weight to it, to pull or push the thing around. I`m sure Toto must have something that will do the job in his collection.??? Anyway Toto......I hope it works well for you and gives you good service for a long time. http://www.click your oldest, newest, bestest, buddy old pal.....Gormo
If my Heljan loco fleet don't pull it ............ nothing will. bomb proof work horses. the video will be forth coming. cheers Toto
Nice work Gormo as you say it's built for a pourpose but wow it wouldn't look out of place in the engineers train or with a few ballast hoppers behind it. The custom signs are a nice touch as well Congrats Toto on the new tool for the shed
Toto I tried to send mine ages ago, It wouldn't fit in the letter box so I had to trim it (only tool available was my teeth, by the time I had finnishe there wasn't enoug room for the stamp, sorry but it did taste good. Paul
Oh deary me???? You fellas are a funny bunch Toto has put an order in for one of those track grinding machines he saw in Gary`s video. Gary`s Track Grinding Video I`m working on it Toto.......I have an issue with the sparks and smoke.......back to the drawing board I`m afraid.......Oh!!!......and it`s grinding the rail down to the sleepers........but that`s OK.....it`s just a height adjustment issue. http://www.clickGormo
Must admit I quite like that idea for track cleaning. I have one of the rather pricey CMX track cleaners, does a good job, but was thinking that using Gormo's idea, the hardboard 'skid' would act as a polisher on the rails after the IPA I use in the CMX has hopefully loosened/cleaned the gunk off the rails. My weapon of choice for shoving the rather weighty CMX around, is a 'Hybrid' Class 40 I bought at a train fair. I believe it's a Hornby body on a Bachmann chassis with two motor bogies, so it's got some real 'grunt'. I was thinking CMX on the front, Gormo-polisher on the back......should clean up better than a going over with 'Cillit-bang'!!! Keith.
If Toto wires it up it will go bang. Possibly the IPA car first, a Gormo car with a cloth pad to dry the track, and a second Gormo car with a hardboard pad to polish. Paul
Can I just make a point here Gents, This cleaning car is not my original idea. It seems to have started in America years ago as far as I can tell. I have given it my take on the concept but that`s all. So you can call it a Gormo cleaning car if you wish......as I made it.....but I take no credit for the idea. http://www.click Gormo
The IPA evaporates so fast that it would likely be gone by the time the 'polishing pad' reaches it. The pad on the CMX is a kind of corduroy material, so holds a fair bit of gunk before it needs replacing or cleaning. Keith.
Hi Keith, The CMX is a big heavy brute if it's the same one I'm thinking of. Not cheap but at the same time a very sturdy piece of kit. Maybe a video of it in action ...... Cheers Toto
