I should have known that life doesn't go to plan. The outlaws have been ill and Karen has been staying the day with them, I've been on standby to do the shopping, doctors run etc etc. Then to top it off with the proverbial cherry, her brother, Gary, was taken to hospital with heart palpitations. So I aint done much.
Yesterday and this afternoon I managed to make the pillars for the end of the wing walls. They are foam board clad with the same brick paper. Thankfully I had just enough to finish them with.

Any way I have glued the rear wings and end pillars on. Just need to leave it alone until the glue dries.
Oh and I got the first coat of paint on the iron work.

That I am afraid is all for now.

    Cheer's, Pete.

    Damn that's good ! :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs:

That is some excellent work going into this, Pete. I guess that is the best thing about O gauge, fitting in the details. Great stuff. Looking forward to the finished bridge.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Thank you chaps.
A little more done this afternoon, the front side wings fitted, mustn't be tempted to touch them until tomorrow. The rear wings were a little fragile so I have re-inforced them with some thin card and pva where it will be hidden, I'll do the same to the front ones tomorrow.

    Hi Pete,

Just took a run over the build from scratch again to home in on the stanchions and hand rails. Very neat and lovely detail. A terrific build.

    Thanks Toto.
I've started the ground work using lattice made from corn flake box cut into strips.

Its also been glued down to some thin mdf.
I have used Rons method of gluing tissue (loo roll) on top of the card. Just one corner for now.

I've knocked off for now, its a bit chilly in the shed at the mo', the flippin' heater is playing up :whatever:.

    Cheer's, Pete.

Up date. All 4 corners now covered with the loo roll, gooey filler/poster paint slathered on.

First side painted with green poster paint, just waiting for 'tother side to dry and I will paint that too.

    Thats it for now.

    Cheer's, Pete.

I have found my comp thread again by going into my account but I cannot find it by going into any of the forums. So as I have been posting on Vynilpeas thread I will post up the photos on here and hopefully I will be able to find it again.

Great looking bridge build there Pete. your bridge is similar to a cattle underpass one near Tean on the old Cheadle branch from Creswell.

Thanks Paul, the real bridge crossed an unpaved lane called Horham lane, the only photo I have shows it as very overgrown so that is the effect I will be going for.
I want to use real soil for ground cover base under the bridge and between the wings. I don't want to use soil from my garden as Bear, my Lab X has peed all over it. However while out walking him today I spotted some mole hills, so I broke a lump off, (it was frozen solid!) and I will thaw it, dry it out, batter it, then sieve it, before microwaving it to kill any bugs!

    Cheer's, Pete.

Ooh that sounds experimental using real soil, I'm following this thread with interest. Many years ago ... and I mean many years ago when I started earning a wage and had OO gauge I used natural sand as a ground cover, no microwaves in those days, trouble was I noticed a profusion of tiny jumping insects had made their home on the layout. Thankfully a good hoovering with the sand emptied into the bin and a sharp lesson was learnt. To be honest the fine clinker ash I now use as trackbed cover from Woodland Scenics is I suspect merely dyed sand.

    Cheers York Paul

Very impressive, so your not bothering with the ingle row of bricks around each cut out then :headbanger:

After much prevarication I have got round to almost finishing my bridge entry.
I nuked the dried soil I collected (after running a magnet over and through it first) and then gave it a good bashing to reduce the lumps, sieved it and then sprinkled it onto neat pva painted on the board under the bridge (unfortunately I didn't take any pic's of this stage :faint:).
Next I gave it some more static grass coverage and then some bushes and weeds.

In the original photo of the real bridge there is just a little of the fencing in shot, so I have included that too. Cut down coffee stirrer and a bit of fire work stick.

    IMG_1737.JPG IMG_1738.JPG IMG_1740.JPG IMG_1739.JPG

As soon as I've done 'tother side I will take a photo of the bridge against a backdrop I have made and that will be the completed job.

    Cheer's, Pete.
