    Hi Tom

Your kit is slightly different from the 6 wheel full brake - dont have the half etched line shown below

    upload_2020-5-8_22-52-14.png

if you insert the ventilator into the the recess, flush with the top edge, the half etch line will raise the bottom edge to give angled appearance to the ventilators.

Yeah ..... got it sussed ..... the build goes on. :avatar: better to have it clear in your mind rather than forging ahead and messing it up.

    Cheers

That's what i concluded as well, all it says is tin Part 4 and sweat into position, so the half etch line will raise forming the shape.

And now confirmed by Jim himself in a telephone conversation this morning. Small part, tinned, etched side down, slight pressure with a blade as you sweat it in place and the etch will have the tendency to raise slightly at the bottom to create the impression of an angled vent / Louvre.

Happy chappy ...... shed time shortly to give it a go x 10.

    Pictures as it happens.

    Cheers

Where's the piccies you've had almost 4 hours :avatar:

The 6 wheel brake isn't the same - these are just soldered direct to the body - no taper effect.
It will be interesting to see the difference

Thats right ....... you take all the cissy builds ....... Now ... here, where the real build is happening ... I was looking at vents ....

    and here they are ....

    and the long shot ....

and the flat long shot ..... :avatar:

I tried it as instructed but found the vents were not pronounced enough to be really noticeable ..... so ..... I created a very slight bend along the etched line ( hidden on the back of the vent ) and I think it is a much better result ....

    One side down.

Now .... I can either continue and do door handles and hinges .... or .... catch up to the same stage with side number two ...... decisions decisions ..... never easy on the real builds ...... :whatever:

    cheers for now

Tumbleholme and bottom bend next for me, then add the extra details you're doing at the moment.

But that will be later - we have a cat and dog that appear to be starving to death, well with the noise they're making you'd think so :avatar:

Pizza for tea tonight. Then back to the shed. I'm hoping SWMBO forgets to shout me when lulu shouts to go her walk. Maybe if I stay quiet enough. :avatar:

Then its tumblehome number two and the same again for side two.

I will do the hinges but these very fragile looking ornamental door handles will wait until the rough and tumble of the main build is over. I may even simplify and strengthen these with a simpler handle made of wire / rod. We'll see.

    OK,

vents now on and looking good .....

and a shot along the side with all 5 done.

Not sure how much further I'll get tonight. I'm going to have a look at both the model sides and ends and make up my mind whether or not to do the hinges next, or to make the remaining folds in the sides and ends first. Jim has hinges first but I'm looking at a trade off between potential damage if doing the hinges first and reduced accessibility if I wait until the main body is soldered into one unit.

I'll let you know what I decide and pictures will follow. Might be tonight .... might be tomorrow. ..... I'm on the John Smiths now ........ :avatar:

cheers for now and I hope you enjoy.

I'm going to have a look at trying to fabricate some brass door handles because although the ones supplied are nice and ornamental, I don't think they would survive much handling. I'll see, maybe nothing will come out of it but I'll have a play around with some rod and see what I can come up with.

It wont slow things down as they are in an easily accessible location for fitting in and soldering from behind later in the build. ..... says he. :whatever:

    I can but try.
