On to rechecking the tumblehomes to sed if the latest bout of handling etc has knocked them out any. Once I'm happy with that, I'll start the hinges. 10 doirs x 3 hinges ..... that's 30 in my book.

I may get through them tonight and hopefully be onto assembling the main components together by tomorrow. That's the plan anyway.

    Cheers for now.

Looking forward to you bending the top and bottom folds - I know how worried I was making the bends and I'd only formed the tumbleholme and no added detail fitted.

Talk of wimpy build, you don't even have a tumbleholme on the ends.

    Keep up the good work

    OK,

you'll need to wait the folds as I have only got through one sides worth of hinges. They were a pain and a half. Never mind ..... Done. I only lost one so far .... it pinged into oblivion early door .... before I got the " knack ".

the full frontal .... ooooo vicar ..... :avatar:

and one of the business side ... a bit solder here and there but not too bad as it wot be seen. Might spend a bit more time removing the worst.

one vent decided to come off as I exposed it to heat for just a little longer than was good for it so I cleaned out the bed of old solder and renewed rather than trying to use the old stuff. A better job I think. So ..... tomorrow .... its the rest of the hinges on the other side and then ....... check out the tumblehomes, adjust if necessary and get it boxed up and soldered. then...... foot boards etc.

hey .... this ain't a bad build so far. fidgety .... I'll give you that .... but not bad.

    more as it happens.

    cheers

Sounds like a soul destroying job that one... but well worth the resultant finish. Look forward to seeing the pics later on.

If you have a mini drill it would be worth investing in some burr tools for it. They are great for cleaning up and grinding off the stubs of grab handles, hinges etc. So that they don't impede the internals or glazing when you get to them.

    OK,

taking a bit time to read over the destructions now.

The time has come to solder the main four components together but prior to doing that. I just want to check and re-check the tumblehomes. Also have a look at the foot boards etc before taking the next steps. Just being a little cautious as there is no rush.

the folds will be done to upper and lower sides once I am relatively happy with the tumblehomes. Probably tomorrow before I put more solder to iron.

    going well so far.

    cheers

    OK,

so its time to make the folds to the upper and lower sides.

I'm about as confident as I can be with the tumblehomes so ... no more dithering.

    photos shortly.

and here we are .... that was quick eh.

    bring on the beast ......

and the first of the folds..... this time to the top of the side .....

    and then the bottom .....

    times two.

now I don't know where Dundee is with his cissy build ....... he's very slow at the moment ...... about as energetic as an asthmatic ant with a ruck sack on its back ...... cant get him going at all.

now .... lets get the solder flowing.

    cheers

    and another .....

    and one more for now

and now we are on to the foot boards etc.

    tally ho.

All sole bars and foot boards cut from frets, cleaned up and test fitted .....

i need to set them up for the next stage which is combining the various parts by soldering brass rod between them.....

there are also some riveted reinforcement plates to go on prior to doing that .....

So .... i think another read through the instructions in order to get the order correct. It may be the case that the brakes and running gear go in before installing these as there are notches in the foot boards that go around the axle guards.

some reading to do to ensure that I get the order of construction correct.

no more soldering tonight. thats a tomorrow job now.

hope you have enjoyed ..... cheers for now

Thoroughly enjoyable read in following progress Toto , these look very nice carriages and worth all the time spent getting round the fiddly jobs such as door hinges and the like.

Yeah .... I may moan about it but it is something I need to get used to as there are so many more to come ...... and they will only get harder as I have been very selective this far in terms of difficulty.

    bring on the 4F. :avatar:

Oh not that old chestnut the 4F... :giggle:... I had a lucky escape there buying the last one from Jim... it could have been something else totally different like an LNER Q1 tank engine instead:facepalm:

You never know I might do a surprise purchase ... they are quite nice tank engines and since I have more tanks than tender locos in my fleet it could well make for a nice build sometime.
