Have a look at the etches. The cab sides anb roof are one big etch which requires forming.

    Shouldn't be too hard.

I think the cab roof and sides can take their line off the front and rear cab sections in order to get the correct radius. Maybe not a 5 minute job and needs a bit care taken but doable. Maybe I'm just very optimistic....... or naive. :avatar:

So .... the coach build .....

I'll be hitting the shed again tonight. SWMBO is back at work this week on a 3 day out of 5 work pattern. She goes back full time on Monday ( NHS admin / secretarial ) . I've been snoozing ..... ahem .... bonding with Lulu. I dont like having her locked up in the house on her own with me in the shed. She wont settle in the shed and starts eating everything in sight. I'm thinking nasty materials here.

So, after tea .... it's time to don my asbestos fingers and strike up the soldering iron to progress the sole plates and foot boards. Hopefully, if I can get them done tonight, that will see the rest of the weekend to dip in and out of the running gear and the last of the pipe work and other items of furniture.

My aim is to complete this ( except painting ) and clear the decks in readiness for the commencement of the 4F build. No reason why this cant be achieved. ( with the possible exception of a little heart and kidney trouble ......... heart lazy and kidney be bothered ). Hopefully not as I am on my game at the moment.

Cheers for now and I'll check back in later.

I ended up starting on the roof and roof access handrails etc. Then bored a number of holes to take the various white metal fixtures.

he we are so far .....

hand rails down the ends. one on both sides.

and on the roof edges. i may have left these sitting a bit proud but they could be adjusted to suit later.

another showing the roof grab rails and some of the holes bored....

    shot from a distance .....

and again the roof furniture holes ....

now for some 100 degree solder on the roof furniture.

    back later .....

OK .... Roof furniture is on .... I got the higher temperature hand rail installation out the way before turning my attention to the roof furniture as that was going on with 100 degree solder due the fact it was all white metal.

I tinned the underside of the roof around the holes that I drill;ed with normal solder then applied the 100 degree low melt as I offered the various items into these holes ..... worked ok.

the good thing about soldering these in from the underside is that you end up with a nice neat job on the visible3 side ....

    and another ......

and as it is a warts an all thread .....

the business side. I will tidy it up a bit but wont be dedicating too much time to it as it wont be seen.

Now ..... some furniture / pipes etc to the step access end of the carriage ... I may get that done tonight .... we'll see.

thanks and I hope you have enjoyed.

Thank you very much kind Sir.

just shows how even an amateur can make a reasonable job out of one of these kits. it ain't perfect as there are one or two small fo pa's but it will pass the 3 metre rule ..... :avatar:

I'm quite happy with it .... I can only get better.

    cheers for now.

Back to the shed shortly. The remainder of the emergency brake rigging still to be done, buffers, ose's, brake shoes to laminate and sole bars, and step boards to be made up. Dont know what I'll hit first as there is no real particular order of construction ( that matters ).

I must admit I feel in a laminating sort of a mood ....... there again, the step boards offers something decently involved to get my teeth into ..... oh ... decisions .... I used to be a bit indecisive but now ..... I'm just not sure. :scratchchin:

    See you in the shed

    OK,

I decided to get the lamination of the brake hangers and blocks out of the way .....

here is what the instructions have to say about that ...

    accompanied by a diagram .....

Now .... this may be obvious to some and the common sense bit in me ( not the biggest department admittedly ) says that the matching holes between the brake hangers and blokes get a bit rod passed through them to make it look like a sort of bolt arrangement.

any challenges to that train of thought as the instructions are a little bit light on this.

I know the middle holes are for the yokes.

I'm going to proceed on that basis for now ....

    cheers

From my experience in understanding of the real thing, the top and lower holes in the cast brake block is where a swinging support bracket connects, the brake block casting can be fitted each way ... hence the provision of lower hole to take the fang bolt and locking nut. Now this may well not be so evident on a model as I see from the picture the kit brake block solders to the underside chassis via a tab which mimics the hanger visually. So in short just ignore the upper and lower holes unless in the build you want to solder a tiny piece of thin wire in to look like a bolt fastening, otherwise I'm sure under paint and with a coating of grime this will never be noticable.

    OK,

laminating of the brake hangers and shoes complete .....

    started with these .....

ended up with these ..... four down .....

all eight down. two of them have the holes for the yokes contaminated with solder so I'll just rebore them now.

job done ..... now ..... whats next ..... has to be sole bars and foot boards me thinks

    cheers for now

The first of the boarding steppy things ......

    both sides done .....

now that leaves me with the lower step and their corresponding roddy hangery doofers.

more later ..... if the brandy that I am about to have does not take effect. :avatar:

    cheers
