:avatar: at least nobody here is suffering from the El Crapo syndrome... or has anyone got any of his kits stashed away somewhere.:scratchchin:

Depends who el crapo is. :avatar: I have about a dozen of a certain kit that could fall into that category. No name given or prizes for guessing.

oh lord i remember MTK from my 4mm days. Any resemblance to the prototype is purely coincidental i have never owned one of the 7mm el crapo kits they made.

Me too mate, I remember seeing his wares displayed at a couple of shows. He had one or two built up diesels on show. Whether they were made from his own kits I don't know but he seemed to be quite proud of the kits!

I have an MTK 00 gauge Class 73 knocking around somewhere I think, all white metal body as I recall. It made up into a 'reasonable' (if you're being kind!) model, probably one of my earliest attempts at a white metal loco kit, perhaps one to forget methinks!:giggle:

I know who you are thinking of but El Crapo was the marketing name given by MTK for their 7mm range. I once bought an LMS period 3 brake third in 4mm from MTK and the body was an aluminium one piece thing with a cantrail profile the width of the gutters on St Paul's Cathedral, the floor was a piece of hardboard strip... needless it never got put together.

My experience with MTK was with a 155 sprinter. it was a similar mix of aluminium, plastic & poor quality whitemetal. There was no wood in it but the floor was a piec of aluminium section. couldnt solder it and it didnt seem to stick well with araldite either. the plastic ends fell off a couple of times. There was absolutly zero surface detail. no doors, no window frames and certianly no rivets to count. It was only beaten in crapness by the q kits baby deltic which was just a collection of badly shaped whitemetal.

So at last I did manage to get a coat of etch primer on the loco, as usual, a few odd bits showed up which will need slight fettling and a touch-in spray, but nothing drastic. Now I'm faced with choices which may be dictated by decal availability so I'll post separately about that.

So I've now finished the paint on this loco, just the transfers left to do, BR lined black, late logo since it will be a "Heritage" loco. I've ordered the transfers from HMRS two weeks ago but heard nothing yet (apparently they email when transfers are despatched) which is disappointing. I would normally have used Fox Transfers, (48 hour service) but although they do the 'Generic linings' sheet I need in 4mm scale, they don't appear to do them in 7mm, or at least if they do, I can't find them. Since I'm now 'stuck' awaiting the transfers, I've made a start on the Connoisseur "Queen Mary" brake van, and as Jim has again suspended ordering until December due to the number of orders He has, I've pre-ordered an LSWR brake van for December delivery as the next kit in line. Anyway, here's progress so far, temporarily just dropped onto the chassis for this pic.
