    Thanks Kim,

Those links and our discussion has had me looking through my library because my instinct dictated that the solebars on the LNER version should be bauxite.

By good fortune I have just received Peter Tatlow's LNER Wagons part 4B as a late Fathers Day present from my son. This particular volume covers (among other things) the LNER designed Pipe and Tube wagons.

Although the LNER period images are in monochrome, there is one image of a Pipe wagon that quite clearly shows the livery as you and Jim have depicted it. There isn't an image of the tube wagon that is from an angle that allows such a clear distinction between body colour and solebar/headstock colouring but I am happy that I am wrong in my assumption/interpretation and will paint my tube wagons as you have when I get to them.

I am reminded of the old saying "there is none so blind as them who cannot see" because frustratingly I was only looking at the Pipe wagon section a few days ago for another long term inhabitant of the workbench. While looking closely at the body/underframe details to see if I had missed anything I completely missed the clarity of the pre 1937 livery.

Every day is a school day, and I thank you again for leading the way with all aspects of this build.

A bit more progress over the weekend. Acrylic weathered wood effect started and the job of making all the door “pins” and retaining chains has started. Very fiddly job, but I think it will be worth it in the end. Decals have gone on, so between making the pins I will finish of the interior paint work and then start weathering the chassis.

    Kim

Cracking job Kim. Late to this thread (after seeing your post else where)
I’ll try and get some photos of the real thing next week.

All doors now have working latches and retaining chains fitted, so weathering next, then a suitable load.

It’s a bit different from a “standard” build. Should look nice when it’s weathered up with a load and posed on a siding.

Cheers Rob. It’s been a fiddly but enjoyable build. I’m just pleased that I’ve got a wagon sitting on the layout as once I started to cut the etches up, I did wonder if I’d ever get it back together again.

Started the weathering on the chassis and sides today, using some track grime colour, I’ve sprayed the model ready for final detailing. I’ve also built a load for it.
10.5 mm plastic tubes and some 3mm ply.

measure and mark out all the holes.....

drill out, starting with a small dril and working my way up to 10.5mm

    test fit.

I’ve gone for three supports which looks right to me, but let me know if you think it should be four as I have a spare one.
