Dabbling in Fusion 360

Sorry mate, I wasn't very clear. I meant that I wasn't messing about any more with animations.

Knowing that at least some of what's shown wouldn't be 3D printed* it's only there for the "show" it just isn't worth any more effort.

*The stays and some of the pins that hold the jib parts would be better in brass rod to add a bit of strength I think.

I may do a bit more on the design side and add a screw adjuster to the weight block like this.





Then I will produce export STL files so that both options of the crane can be printed

Well true to his word Mossy printed the crane files recently and I made a start yesterday on assembling the mobile version.

I turned up some brass pegs to retain the clevises to the frames.

I have to say that I'm well impressed with it so far.

No, I have primed the jib but I was trying to decide whether to have it up in the air or dismantled for traveling. Then I realised just how little resin would be holing the stays if I had them separate so they will be assembled like those at the back.

 

Sorry this question didn't sink in when I replied yesterday. No I confess that I haven't given it much thought. I will consult the tomes to see what I have in the way of reference photos.

 

I have been dabbling with trying to get a wood effect on the resin jibs and I'm quite pleased with the result.

 

Next up is the yard crane version of the crane. However I made a boo boo when I sent through the parts list and missed a couple of the rollers/spacers and the one that I did remember came out a little under size. Undeterred I turned up one roller from a wooded garden stake/plant support stick and the other two from an old knitting needle.















I didn't get much further because I wanted to finish of my bolster wagons before we went out to Wensleydale show last weekend. I was building them there last year and I like to share what I had been working on when completed

 

Before fitting them, I painted the jib(s) wood coloured again using a mixture of Vallejo Woodgrain and Burnt Umber this time over a red oxide primer which gave a very nice looking result. This is one application where small visible layer lines actually add rather than detract from the overall finish



So much so that people who have seen and handled the jib thought it was a piece of wood.



I still have to fit the yard Crane jib, but it's painted up ready to fit.

 

It does, but I have made a right horlicks of the yard crane assembly as someone has just pointed out over on Western Thunder - I have assembled the jib at the wrong end (To be fair I had done the same on my 3D assembly drawing and no one picked up on that either) Hence, when it came to assembly, I opened the 3D image and made the same error.

It still looks good, it just had me muttering a bit.
