G`day Folks, Recently I added some new Quick Clamps to my arsenal of clamps. They are larger than the ones I already had, but at the time of purchase I realized that there were also accessories that could be added to them to make them more versatile. They came in handy for a build I was doing for my youngest ( 5 ) Grandson. My son was the first in the family to have one of these in the 1980`s. Then one followed for my first Grandson in about 2008, then my second Grandson about 3 years ago and now this final version for the youngest. That`s it though folks.....the end of an era.....no more....only four exist in the world.... The little bloke is quite chuffed to have one of his own now. But anyway........these clamps are like having extra sets of hands, but you`ve got to buy the good ones. The cheap ones are just rubbish and won`t last. Gormo
Another great review Gormo. I had no idea that these accessories existed. Very handy indeed. Thanks for posting this up. cheers toto
I already have two, but just spotted these at a bargain price at the Wigan exhibition It's the type that can be reversed too!
No worries Toto, I`ll post a link to Irwin`s accessories page for clamps on their website. As you will see, there a few other handy bits and bobs. https://www.irwin.com/tools/browse/clamps/clamp-accessories Gormo
The old pair I have is from Wilko's, they are OK, but lack pressure (slip if you push back) but they are very small. I don't do much wood work at the moment and have a pair of sash clamps if needed, but I actually use these little things for modelling! When plastic finger clamps are not wide enough or the big ones with a wide throat exert too much pressure, then these are great for holding things together while some glue sets etc.
The clamps I have are 3/4" and very strong. I tend not to use them on easily compressed materials like foam board but on wood and plasticard they are bang on. I also have some mini ratchet clamps, 4" and 6", the 6" are much better than the 4", yet they are made by the same company. I got mine from Squires at exhibitions, I think they were £3.50 for the 6". Cheer's, Pete.
Prices are all over the shop for clamps.......just depends what you want I suppose and that`s reflected in the price. It`s good to have a range of these things to suit the purpose, so that`s what I`m slowly working on........a collection.... Gormo
Like you I have acquired a few Irwin clamps over the years. I have also bought cheap no name ones on the internet that lasted 5 minutes. I now only buy Irwins. A little bit more expensive but a known quality. Jim
