    G`day Folks,

Staying with the foam rubber theme, here`s a little how to on making a hedge. This is not ground breaking stuff and many who have gone before will have done this long before I did it.

Nevertheless, it`s quite a satisfying little exercise in scenery, once you get into it, and more than likely can inspire one to move onto bigger and better projects in scenery. I do believe however, I`ve found a little short cut with the coloured glue. This was a happy accident caused by necessity due to lack of time to make the video. Sometimes you need some time pressure to bring these things to the surface.

Anyway folks, it`s like most things in model railways....." it`s not rocket science "....it`s not going to change the world.....so just dive in and have a go because it can be a bit of fun too.!!!!!

    Gormo,

Great and simple idea. I'm certainly no expert but you're hedge looked better than a bought one. It looks like it hasn't been trimmed.

Was that a Scalescenes cathedral in the background?

BTW when I saw the picture of you in the rubber gloves

The following music video came to mind (there is nothing suss or offensive in the video unless you hate the style).

    Thanks Paul, Marty and Cameron,

One does what one can to reduce the outgoings, stimulate the creativity and keep the grey matter functioning. On top of that it`s very satisfying getting a good result.

Cameron.....like the music mate , especially the guitar work and the church is a Metcalfe kit. That kit was from my pre kit bashing days. I was only looking at it this afternoon and assessing what could be done to improve it. There are a couple of things plus some green creepers or the like would help too.

Hello Gormo, having made 6 hedges, they look great. After hacking away at the sponge rubber, I found the easiest way to cut ( I saw it on youtube) was to borrow the wife's electric carving knife ( without her knowing). Slices through very easily.

Certainly better than scissors or blade.

    Cheers, Andrew

    G`day Andrew,

I`m glad you had a good result with your hedges...:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

I checked out the video and have to agree the electric kitchen knife is the way to go. I may invest in one of those for the shed. I`m not game to use Mrs. Gormo`s one.....life is too short for that much grief...:avatar::avatar::avatar::avatar:

By the way Andrew.......have a go at bushes / shrubs. I got a cube of foam rubber approx. 75mm square on each face. Took to it with the scissors and deliberately very roughly cut it into bush shape with a pair of scissors......just chopped bits off here and there into an irregular random bush shape. Then followed the same process as the hedges, gluing and sticking flocking onto it. .

Instant bush / shrub....it was dead easy.

I grabbed a pillow case full of fine synthetic flocking material from inside a pillow. My daughter bought it for her pet cat, who managed to shred it in a few hours.
I used a spray can to give a light coat of black, let it dry then hairspray, which sticks fine flocking onto it. When dry I spray again and pva the complete bush it into place.
I will have a go at the bush shapes though.

    Cheers, Andrew
