    G`day Folks,

No videos from Gormo this week.......sorry Matt !!

Instead I thought I would share with you all these two video tutorials I found on YouTube.
The tutorials were created by a young Australian chap called Luke Towan from South Australia. He has a number of very helpful tutorials that can be accessed from his web site or from his YouTube channel.

These two tutorials I am showcasing are Part 1 and Part 2 of how to build your own static grass applicator.
Luke has approached this build with a very clear and easy method that is well within the capability of all of us. I was so impressed with his video tutorials that I felt I had to share them with you all.

Ah... I have seen something quite similar to this previously. For the life of me I can't remember where...! ;);)

    Cheers, Gary.

Hi Gormo, I have seen these tutorials before, did you read some of the comments made by other veiwers, some said that the ionisers that they personally bought had failed very quickly, probably because they were cheap chinese products, so I think you need to check where they are made.

    Cheers, Pete.

    Hi Pete,

I use the earlier version of negative ion generator (IonA2) and Oatley Electronics have replaced this module with the IonB2, as in the video. I built my SGA back in 2013 (see link above in my previous post) and I have not had any issues with it. I have used it on three layouts as well as demos at exhibitions. Oatley Electronics give a warranty on their product.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Fair Point Pete,
I would suggest anyone taking on the project should buy a quality product rather relying on something cheap from the Bay.
When I take on this project I will do as Gary has done and purchase my parts from Oatley Electronics.
http://www.click Gormo.........PS.....I have no affiliation with Oatley Electronics

I have just had a look on Oatleys site and at $14 it looks to be very reasonable, however I imagine the postage cost will be high, though they say that ordering via their Ebay site is cheaper for overseas buyers, except they don,t list the module on fleabay?

    Pete.

Must admit I'm tempted to have a go at this and I suppose the Ionizer is the most critical part ? so paying a little more for a better one is a no brainer.
I wonder how hard it would be to make interchangable heads ? so you could have a large head for big areas and a smaller head for fine detail ? the lead would still need soldering to the mesh on each head but you could leave a decent length of cable on the handle part and use male / female conectors to join the head lead to the handle lead ? food for thought :scratchchin:
Great article Gormo and thanks for your link as well Gary
    Cheers
    Matt

    :gday:Folks,
There`s more than one way to make a cup of hot chocolate.??
    Static Grass Applicator

Thinking of you Brits on a budget......why build when you can buy.???...... and this is just one example of what`s available if you search.
So if you`re having trouble with sourcing a negative ion generator, this may be a better option for you.?

not bad Gormo me old mate but its from Hong Kong and postage is near £9 so I'm sure any warranty would be pretty useless over here ?
    Cheers

I had a lot of interest at the recent exhibitions I had done with my SGA. I was hoping to get hold of a few units (Ion generators) for the exhibition but happened to leave it too late. Oatley electronics used to be a ten minute drive from home, now they have moved up the North Coast. The chapwho runs the business is quite happy to post the units out and if their is interest here, maybe I could sort a few out for you guys in the UK. I can even supply the same drawings/diagram I handed out at the exhibition to assist you guys in building one.

    Cheers, Gary.

I have a couple of the fly swatters to give it a try with - maybe one day, if I ever get this building finished.

    Good tutorial tho.

I'll get on the case. I would like to build myself another smaller unit for getting into tight places/corners.

I can order one for you no worries at all, the same time I order mine, then post it off to you.

If anybody else would like a Negative Ion Generator, to be used in a Static Grass Applicator, please let me know.

    Cheers, Gary.
