    G`day Folks,

I`m letting somebody else do the work this week.

This weeks video was found whilst trawling the internet some time ago and it quite impressed with it`s alternative approach to creating easy hills etc. for your model railway. It`s also a relatively clean method compared to plaster.

The guy doing the demo is Kevin Smith and I assume he is from the USA.

    The video is titled.
How to Make Easy Hills & Mountains for Model Train Layouts and Dioramas

The initial stages of the process seem rather ordinary looking until Kevin starts to stick down the quilted batting that is fundamental to this technique.

Anyway enjoy the video and you may find something of use for your own railway. Personally I like this guy because he is thinking outside the square to get a very good result.

    Good find Gormo.

I have used this method previously but instead of quilt batting, I have used Chux cloths (J cloth) cut into 3" squares and layered over a styro-foam sub base with PVA. It dries in about 24 hours and forms a nice hard shell which then can be painted and flocked over with scatters.

    Cheers, Gary.

    Yes guys,

It is a good method.....you could also use paper towels, toilet paper etc. etc. but I think this method with the quilt batting gives an interesting texture to work with as well.??

Hi Gormo, I watched the video, I must admit at the start I was little sceptical but as it progressed I must say I got more and more into it, the end result after painting gives a very realistic ground finish, his use of flock ground cover is quick, but I reckon using static grass, though slower, would be even more effective, great find.

    Cheers, Pete.

Yes you are probably right Pete, static grass would be better. :scratchchin:
