G`day Folks, Welcome to episode 52 of Gormo`s Shed which this week comes to you from the nation`s capitol, Canberra. Cockington Green gardens were created by Doug & Brenda Sarah and opened to the public in 1979, Cockington Green is one of Canberra’s big attractions, being a winner of an Australian Tourism Award and many local tourism industry awards in it`s time. The gardens contain an International display area, which compliments the original English Village, which is my favourite part. The Rose Room indoor exhibition, features a 34 room Dolls House, which was a key attraction for Mrs. G whilst the Miniature Steam Train ride, which encircles the International Display, grabbed my attention. We had a good couple of hours there and had some lunch in the cafe, before hitting the road home to Sydney. So enjoy a brief look at the gardens with us. The usual disclaimer.....I have no interest in, or affiliation with, Cockington Green Gardens, other than it being a pleasant place to visit, especially for young families. Very enjoyable Gormo, looks like the perfect day for it too! If I remember rightly, all the trains at the international part are LGB and there are a large number of locos and carriages which are kept in the shed. They can be changed out daily for maintenance if reqiured. Andrew Sandbar & Mudcrab Railway
Looks a good day out Gormo (the weather must help!). We have something similar in England at Beaconsfield, it must be 40 years since I visited it but it's still going strong. http://www.bekonscot.co.uk/ Cheers Ron
That's cheered me up on a freezing cold morning....................... at least it's stopped snowing here. Thanks Gormo Ed
Thanks Gormo, on a snowy day in the UK it's nice to know someone is having good weather! I well remember going to Beckonscot on coach tours from home (this was classed as our summer holiday). It nearly always rained! Steve
G`day Guys and thanks for your comments, I haven`t been to Beaconsfield yet but it`s on the list Ron. Actually I have been to Babbacombe Model Village http://www.model-village.co.uk/ many years ago when my kids were young. It`s not far from Torquay where the real Cockington Village is set...http://www.englishriviera.co.uk/places-to-visit/cockington-village-p1297643 The weather was good on the day but a little on the warm side. It was always good to find some shade. Steve and Ed, our weather may look good to you when you`re freezing over there in the UK, but let me tell you it`s quite unpleasant here for a while. Last night at 9.30pm it was still 31 Celsius out on my back porch. It`s hard to get a good nights sleep. It was 27 at 6.30 am this morning and most likely will hit 40 again through the day. Not good weather to be outdoors unless you`re 25 years old and fit as a fiddle. You have to keep your fluids up and stay out of it basically, otherwise you`ll be in all sorts of trouble. Andrew I`m not sure about the railway stock. I found the train operation slightly changed from years ago whereby now you have to stand there with your finger on a button to make the trains run. When the kids run them they start, stop,start,stop,start,stop......Aaaaarrghhhh!!!!....but let`s face it....it is for children basically....so what can you do.???? http://www.clickGormo
Mostly impressed with the gardens and grounds, absolutely stunning. The models are also excellent. Is there any history on the little Fowler engine that hauls the tourist train ? Cheers, Gary.
G`day Gary, There`s some info on their site. Just click on the link and scroll down to Miniature Steam Train Rides. http://www.cockingtongreen.com.au/miniature_steam_train_rides.html http://www.clickGormo
This has to be the best video to hit our screens yet. It was absolutely fantastic. Each scene / cameo was a joy to see. The landscape was beautiful. I'll be watching this again and again. The signature music is also very well played Gormo. Another video of you tickling the strings would be nice. Very relaxing music and so appropriate for the setting. Five stars Sir.
Golly Toto, You`re very kind......I`ll slip you that 10 bucks in the post.....don`t tell anyone though.??? Thanks mate.. http://www.clickGormo
