G`day Folks, Well here`s an easy one for you all.!!! I have used modelling clay to do this but you could possibly use Blue Tack or Plastiscene, although they would need to be hardened. I`ve heard you can use Superglue on Blue Tack but I`m not sure on Plastiscene. Anyway it`s a simple method using modelling clay and my bench vice.....an unlikely combination, but that seems to be quite often the case with model railways. The model railway fraternity seem to be trying all sorts of mad professor experiments to find that elusive magic formula for making model railway items.......well here is another example.???? Great idea Gormo . I saw a video the other day of someone making corrugated iron/asbestos using an existing pattern and painting several coats of PVA on it and when dry, peeling it off. I reckon you could do something similar using your airdry clay as a pattern once its dried solid and making several copies as you need them. Pete.
Good idea Pete !!! This modelling clay would be great for that sort of project. I have found with these videos that a pattern is emerging, both here and on YouTube. Once I post a video, people watch it and then the suggestions and ideas start coming in. It must be a visual trigger that sparks people off into help mode or creativity mode.????? Either that or I look like some poor useless sod who really needs help.????? Anyway, it`s nice that people take the trouble to contribute to the information pool. http://www.clickGormo
Hi Gormo, I'll be catching up with your latest video in the morning. I'm viewing from the comfort of my kip at the moment. Daren't waken the sleeping bear. Cheers for now Toto
I was thinking about my post on using pva, if you use it on the dry clay it would stick like stuff to a thingy, painting the clay with gloss paint would help release the dry pva, dunno if using some sort of release agent would work? I will have to experiment, I've got some Das in the shed. Pete.
Pete, you could possibly use bathroom silicon to take a mold then cast your own using PVA... Cheers, Gary.
Or make a mold using latex like the Mythbusters do. Stuff like this from craft stores might do the trick https://www.eckersleys.com.au/products/rubber-latex
G`day Folks, Pete.....I think you`re right.....the PVA would stick extremely well to the clay. Some other method like Gary and Dr. Tony suggested may do the trick.???? http://www.clickGormo
For smaller pieces, ie strips for platform edges, urinals etc have search for redundant VHS cassettes, the 'grippy ' parts of the case are just the job, and glue with solvent glue. Doug
Hi Gormo, Finally got round to watching your video ( with sound ) It's good. Very straight forward and could be used for quite a few things I think. I think that it could be useful for what we call street furniture. Manhole covers and the like with a bit customisation. Neat
Thanks Doug............good tip... I`ve got some old tapes somewhere and now I`ll have to dig them out. Toto you are correct, this modelling clay allows you to make whatever you like in that regard. http://www.clickGormo
