With me now moving to O gauge I'm now in the process of building a photo plank. The photo plank will be of wagons that would have been used around the above Era 4.
I'm certain to have loads of fun building this plank as it's my new venture into O gauge modelling.
Baseboard was built up last night and a base colour added this morning along with a length of Peco O gauge bullhead track.

Hi I can't believe how much easier it is to paint tracks at this scale. Rails, chairs and sleepers have been painted by hand.
I'm pleased with the look of the track. Once ballast is laid more weathering and grime will be added.

    Mark,

not sure if your aware, but Peco have the sleeper spacing wrong…

how do you fancy a challenge of cutting all the web underside and re spacing them?
No, I don’t think I would either.. :scratchchin:

Look forward to seeing what you turn out!

Hi Andy thanks for the nice comments, I did not know about the spacing. Can't understand why they produce it if the track is wrong as we modeller like to keep it true to real life.
I have the rail built buffer stop coming on Saturday but I can concentrate on the concrete hard standing tomorrow as my 3mm plasticard sheet is arriving. Once that's down I can concentrate on ballasting.

Yeah, for some reason, they put too many in per yard.. should be spaced out more.. depends on how much of a realistic look you want… but it can be worth it.. I recall @York Paul doing it with his Churnet Valley bridge he did.

I will be taking it into consideration when I plan another layout in O gauge.

I certainly won’t be removing any, I’ll be too busy checking on the number of rivets on my locos :scratchchin:

Superb start with taking on this new challenge Mark... Gauge O is mainly always a bit out of the old comfort zone first time around but then it just becomes second nature, its because going into the larger scale creates all new challenges. So well done mate in taking the plunge and being brave... just don't let it run away with your wallet.:avatar::thumbup::tophat::tophat::tophat::tophat:

I wouldn't waste time cutting off the webs on Peco track either... like you Brian I like my loco and stock builds to look correct as best as can be achieved but then I also like my tracks to look correct also. Horses for courses as the saying goes.

Yorkie thanks for the nice comments. I think now moving to O gauge is the way forward for me. Since I have just come down with covid I might get some more work done on the plank.
Looking forward to modelling the hard standing tomorrow depending how I feel though.

On the big railway when bullhead rail was in abundance the number of sleepers per a sixty foot length of panel track was 24 and spaced accordingly towards each fishplate joint where ballast crib spacings were closed up to give maximum support over joints. So not only does flexi-track from that Devonshire production base contain incorrectly spaced sleepering and has too many per every scale sixty feet (420mm) but the rail used for Gauge O passed off as a bull head profile is completely hybrid being just reworked OO Gauge rail with a taller web and larger head. Many modelers wouldn't really seek to concern themselves about such matters preferring to focus on making their trains right instead.

Off to a good start, wish I had the space/money for O gauge, it has such a presence that you don't get in smaller scales.

Andy thanks for the comments. When it comes to affording O gauge I'm only going to purchase the items I need and not get carried away buying things on a whim.
O gauge definitely has better detailing.

:hismiley:and thanks to everyone for the likes and comments. Nothing much has happened on my plank because this covid has knocked me for six.
I have managed to build the O gauge buffer this morning. This will be followed by painting an under coat onto the buffer then weathering can commence.

Under coat has been applied to the buffer stop, needs to dry fully before weathering can be done.

Hi today I have been busy painting the main colours to the rail buffer stop. This will be a good base for when I start weathering the buffer stop.

Hi Mark, a cracking job as usual. I hope you won't mind me making an observation mate. The way these buffers are designed, they are meant to be assembled around the track, the front and rear ends have a piece that go's under the rail and then joined, guess how I found that out. It may be possible to cut the bit of plastic off the underside and then install with super glue and clamp the front and rears to the track.

    Cheers, Pete.
