    Absolutely,

It's hard enough for me to concentrate on one project at a time but when you keep chucking these RC grenades in

I have just finished off another building for the plank. It is Scalescenes Low Relief Flats, which is an easy kit to put together.

This is pretty much everything in the kit ready for assemby. Usual thickness of card used, 2mm grey board and 200gsm card (cereal box).

Several wall sections cut out. These are all glued to 2mm card.

The main wall which houses the windows and doors is glued to the 200gsm card. Sure makes cutting the windows out a lot easier than 1mm thick card ! The 200gsm card has a tendency to curl. I should have used Ed's tip by gluing a sheet of paper to the back of the card. The back of the card has some clear styrene sheet glued across the window openings. The piece on the lower right hand corner is the ground floor section of the flats. This is all 2mm card.

The ground floor section is glued in and now it's a matter of adding each level which includes a verandah floor, brick wall and elevator/lift sections.

A close up of how it goes together. Don't mind the gaps at the base of each wall section as these will not be seen. ;)

All floor and wall sections in place. Only the outer walls and the pebble dash verandah walls need doing. Before installing the pebble dash verandah walls, cappings need to be glued onto these strips.

The flats with the verandahs on, the front wall (a weather wall to protect the lift) and curtains hung in the windows, some open, some closed.

A very easy kit to put together, especially if you print, seal and glue the necessary pages to card stock the night before assembly. The building has a range of signs to go on, but I'll wait to see how the building pans out on the plank first. It could also do with a little weathering since it sits right above a railway line !!

Now, I better get stuck into knocking up the retaining walls !

    Cheers, Gary.

Looks pretty sturdy Gary. As you say, a bit of weathering and it's good to go.

Hi Gary you might want to leave the smell of glue on the stairways and the odd sofa and telly below the balconies (scalescenes of course) .. good build though.

    Thanks Toto and Ian.

I'm currently working on the bridge that forms the scenic break between the fiddle yard and the layout. Lots of fiddly measuring as the bridge runs on an a slight angle to the front of the baseboard, not to mention that one of the piers for the bridge is of an odd shape !

    Cheers, Gary.

Cameron, that is a great kit to extend, build up, whatever. It is very versatile and if you have a look at my Industry Lane thread, you'll see that I have extended both warehouse/factory buildings. http://www.platform1mrc.com/view_post.php?post_id=1701 (scroll down to 8th pic).

Well, I managed to get a little more modelling done this afternoon/evening, but only a little. I started on the road bridge. The deck and the pier sections are made from 3mm foam core, glued together with Tarzans Grip (gel ). This is far better than the messy hot glue gun, which holds the pieces together for a lot less time than what you want ! I have added the under deck supports/RSJs' but extra cross pieces will need to be glued in next, as the front of the bridge (layouts front edge) can be seen.

^ The deck, upside down. Unfortunately I didn't have enough I section so I used some C section in the middle. The white I sections in the foreground will be seen quite visibly.

This pic below, shows the cross section of the bridge that is clearly seen at the front of the layout. Wills girders will make up the bridge walls along with some brick work.

The bridge has a width of 32 feet. This will allow for two 10' wide traffic lanes and two 5' wide foot paths for pedestrians.

Looking down the platform to the bridge. The bridge forms the scenic break between the yard and the sector plate.

And the last pic for the night of the layout with some stock on it !

Tomorrow I'll be off to have a look at another exhibition : https://hmhs.org.au/exhibitors-2/2016-exhibitors/ Two of our members will have layouts there. Mark Chamberlain's will be exhibiting 'Gooligum' and Daniel will have 'Wumbat'. It'll be good to have a catch up.

    Cheers, Gary.

Is the building based on the old arnotts factory at North Strathfield?

    The photo looked very familiar

Cameron, the building in the photo (prototype) taken from a moving train is the old flour mill, located on the western side of King Street in Newtown, south side of the main line. I always thought it would make a great model, which I never got to build so I used it as a guide for this build.

Thanks Toto. I had to add all the I beams as the foam core had a slight bow in it. I was going to skimp on the I beams and only do the two very outer full length beams and the exposed end beams towards the front of the layout. I will add the additional cross bracing underneath, possibly this afternoon, and clad the piers in paper. Then its on to the retaining walls !

    Cheers, Gary.

Hope the show was good have never been able to coordinate getting out to Clarenden for that one.
Got an invite several years ago but it clashed with work commitments at the time :faint:
Any photos when you get back:thumbs: esp Mark Chamberlain's 'Gooligum I spoke with Mark last month and was hoping to get down to see it, not to be this time.

I didn't even know there was an exhibition on - this is the last weekend of hols for me so Steve and I would have gone down if we'd known about it. Maybe we need a calendar on the front page so we can all find out about shows that might not get advertised in the regular model mags etc.

I have made a start on the retaining walls that line the sector plate

I used Scalescenes Dark Random Ashlar and it comes uo quite nicely. Have to finish the capping and top section of wall. Also the bridge piers have been clad in Scalescenes Dark Red Brick which needs weathering but is a nice contrast to the sandstone (ashlar).

The underside of the bridge has also gained some cross bracing, connecting the larger I beams laterally.

Each individual cross section is offset to the one each side. You could say it was done this way to make rivetting a lot easier. Whether I will put rivet detail on these, I'm not sure yet, but it would look great !

    Cheers, Gary.

Very impressive - as usual Gary, you'll need to look at borrowing Gormo's train cam, to show off all that under bridge detail.

This is where I cheated Paul.., I only put the bracing on the section that is visible by the eye at the very front of the layout ! ;) You can't really see between the I beams on the rest of the bridge between the main piers !! :D

    Cheers, Gary.
