ok, so Dad was looking for a new DCC controller for the layout and the Gaugemaster Prodigy DCC06 (with WiFi) looked a good purchase. The decent handset and also a WiFi adapter to control more than one loco from a mobile phone or tablet....

    Or so we thought.

The first issue has been encountered straight away. The set up is a doddle. Plug and play (it even uses the same green plug screw terminals I had for the last layout) and it was ready to go in about a minute. So we tried the handset. Great !!

Er... so how do we do the WiFi?

Well, the base unit only has one of those network plugs (for those who are more knowledgable on these than me, is it a CAT5 but with 8 wires?) so it’s either the hand held controller or the WiFi unit.

Now, gaugemaster do an adapter plate that effectively converts one plug to a dual (to connect a second handset with cable to..) but it’s £44 !!! :faint:

Does anyone else make these adapters for other systems that are compatible? Or can you make your own for much less?

(Just asking for a friend.... as the saying goes!):avatar:

    Hoping someone can help.

My only experience is with NCE, which has a similar issue that connectors are expensive and worse, all the cables use RJ11 connectors (6 wire).
The prodigy, looking at all the paperwork, looks to use RJ45 (8 wire) standard internet cables. In which case, an article I wrote will apply equally to the Gaugemaster system.
That said, I can't guarantee it, as I found all the circuit diagrams for NCE and would need the same for prodigy to be confident.
However, reading this instils confidence in me that it is the same, so if the face-plates are wired "wire to wire", then it should work. I cant guarantee that the wires are used are the same as NCE, so don't attempt the LED or 12v injection versions!

P.S. The Gaugemaster DCC77 Prodigy Walkaround Adaptor does the same job as the DCC11 extension plate!

Hi Andy. What was the outcome? Did you buy one? Does it work?

    Don't keep us dangling!
